Seen below are examples of the spectroscopic/microscopic iPhone camera upgrade’s pics.Here’s how a group of scientists from University of California at Davis did the deed. The instant iPhone microscope camera came to be thanks to a tiny augmentation involving a glass ball lens. The reason why a glass ball lens was perfect is because the resolution it gives is ideal for photographing miniscule samples commonly used in labs. Since this flash of innovative inspiration is so easy to do, the team behind it thinks a lot of scientific research can be aided by easily modded iPhones used anywhere in the world. It’s also more efficient, effectively shortening procedures so doctors and scientists can gather data instantaneously through their iPhones.
A certain Dr. Wachsman-Hogiu got the ball literally rolling by taping the simple contraption (a ball lens secured to a rubber pad) to an iPhone. To think this little addition to a regular iPhone inspired a full fledged paper that will soon be presented to a panel of academics. A physicist by training, Dr. Wachsman-Hogiu’s eureka moment paved the way for further improvements, including a spectroscopic feature for discerning chemical compositions.
