The Samsung GALAXY Nexus was not designed to side-step Apple’s patent claims, but Samsung is already tweaking its TouchWiz Android skin in response to the legal battle with Apple, Samsung’s executive VP of Product Strategy Won-Pyo Hong said at AsiaD.
This puts earlier rumors about Samsung specifically designing the GALAXY Nexus to avoid Apple litigations to rest. “At the time this was not a really heavy issue,” Hong explained why patents were not the hot topic of the fore-runner device for ICS. “I don’t know where that rumor is from,” Hong added.
We can narrow it down to two sources: Russian tech analyst Eldar Murtazin, famous for his recent hit-and-miss record, here obviously missing it. The second one is Yonhap News which reported about Samsung’s own CEO JK Shin speaking about the GALAXY Nexus. They didn't give an exact quote, though, so it seems that this has been an exaggeration on their part as well.
At the same time, though, when asked about its software skin, the TouchWiz UI, Samsung’s executive vaguely confirmed that the company is indeed working on changing it, so that Apple has little reasons to sue. That new TouchWiz is probably coming as TouchWiz 5.0 in 2012.
