Samsung Electronics have today announced the Samsung Galaxy Xcover (Model: GT-S5690), a touchscreen smartphone that combines intuitive social networking features all encased in a waterproof design.
Engineered with materials designed to protect it from wear and tear, the Samsung Galaxy Xcover is the ideal smartphone for active users. Waterproof to a depth of one meter (max 30 minutes), the Galaxy Xcover protects against life's little accidents while still sporting a beautifully slim and stylish body. The Samsung Galaxy Xcover is powered by Android 2.3 ("Gingerbread") the newest version of the world's most popular mobile platform optimised for smartphones.
The GT- S5690 Galaxy XCover will sport a 3.65-inch scratch-resistant capacitive touch screen reinforced with a Gorilla Glass display.
It will also have a 3.2 MP camera with LED flash that can be used as a flashlight, along with Wi-Fi, GPS and HSDPA up to 7.2 Mbps. However, Samsung seems to have ditched the capacitive button scheme on this model with three physical buttons for settings, home and back. The Galaxy XCover will weigh 116 grams and may run on the Marvell MG2 processor.
The phone is slated to release this October in Germany. However, its pricing is yet unknown. Also, such phones need a better battery back up, but no details have been provided for the same. But, if Samsung does power it with a massive battery, then the Galaxy XCover might just be a force to reckon with.
