Acer Iconia Tab A510 Goes Up For Pre-order

Acer’s latest installment in their tablet lineup has made its official debut here in North America as the Iconia Tab A510. Acer is rightfully showing off their pride and joy as this tablet will be the first Acer slab to house a quad-core Tegra 3 processor. The Tab A510 will also be the first edition of the Acer Olympic Games series, and will feature an exclusive Olympic rings design branded on the back of the slab.

Acer has set the price at $449, which will score you Google’s latest OS (Android 4.0), a 10.1-inch WXGA (1280×800 resolution) HD display, Polaris Office 3.5, 32GB of storage, 1GB of RAM, dual cameras, and most importantly the juice of a quad-core Tegra 3 processor. Acer ICONIA TAB A200 benchmark tests

Knowing that this is the year of quad-cores, it’s rather confusing at first to think that dual-core devices are no longer deemed to be the cream of the crop, but rather, it’s eventually going to slide as being nothing more than mid-range. Then again, there’s one benefit to that whole mentality, and that’s the fact that they’re going be priced a lot less – thus, saving you some hard earned cash. With the Acer ICONIA TAB A200, it doesn’t scream anything compelling on paper with its 1GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, but nonetheless, we’re curious to see how it handles.

Out of the box, we’re treated to that all too casual Honeycomb experience with a tablet running NVIDIA’s pride and joy CPU. For most basic tasks, like opening apps or navigating the homescreen with a static wallpaper, it’s ample enough to instill us with some confidence that it’s responsive – however, its flaws are once again exposed with process intensive tasks. For example, we do notice a hint of choppiness when navigating across the homscreen with a live wallpaper, while using it in portrait still results in a tiny bit of a delayed response.

Turning our attention with the our first benchmark test, Quadrant, the Acer ICONIA TAB A200 is able to put up scores roughly between the 1,500 and 1,800 – never once hitting the 2,000 mark. Obviously, that’s nowhere close to some of the benchmark devices out there on the market, like the Asus Transformer Prime or Samsung Galaxy S II. Meanwhile, the AnTutu benchmark puts out a total score of 5,018, which is again nothing spectacular compared to the competition. Are we surprised? Of course not, especially after seeing its performance out of the box. Otherwise, it should prove to be decent enough if you happen to have a good amount of patience, but for those that expect instantaneous results, this might not cut it for them.

Acer Iconia Tab A200 Officially Announced

Early this week we featured a new demonstration video of then yet to be announced, Acer Iconia Tab A200. Well today Acer has now officially announced the arrival of their new Iconia Tab A200 tablet.

The Acer Iconia Tab A200 is equipped with a 10.1-inch display sporting a resolution of 1280 x 800. Powered by a NVIDIA’s 1GHz Tegra 2 processor, supported by 1GB of RAM. Together with Acer’s new ring user interface allowing you to access apps from any screen.

Acer reveals that shipments with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will start in January 2012 worldwide. But any purchases before then will be running Android 3.2 OS Honeycomb, but a free ICS upgrade will be made available in January to those users. The Iconia Tab A200 will be available in either Titanium Gray or Metallic Red. Unfortunately no information on pricing or worldwide availability has been released as yet, but as soon as information comes to light we will keep you updated as always.

Acer Allegro WP7 Phone, release, specs and price

Acer has decided to join in with the smartphone releases this year; they have decided to launch its new Acer Allegro in France. This smartphone runs on WP7 (Windows Phone 7) operating system.

Not really heard a lot from Acer lately, but now they have come out of the wood work to release its new Acer Allegro WP7 smartphone, to tell you the truth jumping for joy is not what we will be doing with this handsets, not really invigorating really.

Main features include a Qualcomm MSM8255 1GHz processor, weighs 126 grams and is 11.6 x 5.9 x 13mm in size, has a 3.6-inch WVGA (480×800) screen, plus 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, 8GB memory, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, and array of sensors, as well as Fast Charge technology.

Acer Allegro (W4) Windows Phone Lands In France Next Month

We heard recently that Acer’s first Windows Phone smartphone which was previously called the Acer W4 and is now called the Acer Allegro would be coming to Europe soon, and now Acer has confirmed that the Allegro will go on sale in France next month.

The Acer Allegro comes with Windows Phone 7.5 Mango and it features a 3.6 inch VGA touchscreen display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, there is also a 5 megapixel camera, plus 8GB of built in storage. The Acer Allegro also comes with a new feature that wasn’t revealed previously, Fast Charge, which is designed to charge the Allegro’s 1300mAh battery up to 2.5 times faster than standard smartphone chargers. The Acer Allegro will go on sale in France in the middle of November for 299 Euros SIM free, there are no details as yet on when it will be available in other European countries.

Acer A100 and A500 may get ICS in January 2012

The new hotness these days is in manufacturers confirming that their Honeycomb tablets will be getting the Ice Cream Sandwich treatment, and get it fast. Word has it that the Motorola XOOM will get the Android 4.0 update, and it looks like the Acer ICONIA TAB A100 and A500 will be getting the update in very early 2012.

Apparently, word leaked from Acer Poland that the ICONIA TAB A100/101 and A500/501 would not be getting the update this year, but users should expect the ICS treatment in mid-January 2012. This seems to match up with a lot of the other update announcements that we've heard from other companies, so although there has been no official announcement, there is also no reason to be skeptical.

Acer has been quick with updates in the past, so it seems reasonable that it would be able to get this one out fairly soon as well.
