The PCOD (Personal Communications and Organization Device). This device combines – smart phone (with video calling), camera, GPS, mp3 player, storage (for photos, files etc.), time/date/calendar, games, app’s and much more. The PCOD would also come with changeable holder/straps in various colors and designs - and the screen wallpaper can be changed to match the chosen holder.

This would be the default screen (above), showing the time, date, network connection icons, first two chosen app’s, and the keypad button. All of this UI would be configurable to whatever the owner prefers. For example – the user could choose which two app’s show first (more app’s are available by scrolling up or down), and the keypad button/icon could be changed for something else like favorite contacts etc.

Next-Generation Mobile Phone Concept:

BA Smartphone Concept

Maleville Sébastien recently detailed the BA Smartphone concept, a pretty innovative idea that can be seen in the images below. This is a rotating phone with a physical keyboard and touch display. The BA name comes from the number eight in Chinese, that is the symbol of full versatility , both horizontally and vertically.

The handset is made of aluminum and its structure is divided into two equal parts. The top part includes a touchscreen display, while the bottom part includes a physical keyboard with pretty big and comfy keys. They’ll come in handy for elderly users and folks who want to avoid mistyping. If you flip the keyboard on the other side, you can access a wide touch area, allowing you to take full advantage of the full touch applications and very cool games. There’s a camera button on the frame of the phone, so you can hold the device like a traditional camera and take pics.

Weather Phone

The Windows Weather Phone is a refresh from bad weather predictions and inconvenient phone interfaces. The Windows Weather Phone is not only able to predict weather accurately, but also make its completely transparent body mimic the weather. If it’s snowing outside, it would appear as if it’s realistically snowing inside the phone itself- creating an astounding illusion.

The Windows Weather Phone uses OLED technology- this allows its transparency without sacrificing technological power. Much like other phones, this phone is able to perform a variety of features such as calling, texting, videos, music and others. Additional to these features, its transparency allows it to perform a unique feature- it can completely mimic weather outside. On a rainy day, the phone would appear to be filled with raindrops, while on a sunny day the phone would appear bright. Although not a particularly useful feature, it’s enjoyable to experiment around with. The Weather Phone also contains text recognition software. To initiate text recognition simply blow onto the screen- the phone recognizes the change in air pressure and responds.

The Windows Weather Phone has no buttons- all functions are controlled through the touch screen. It also allows interaction with the actual weather- for example it allows writing and drawing on a foggy screen- much like how you would draw on a misty window. Although not planned to be commercially sold soon, its sleek design and unique features promises a bright future.

Next generation camera phone

MotoLINK was created for a Product Design course, in which students were asked to design the next generation camera phone for Motorola. Over the course of six weeks, the designer worked closely with Motorola representatives to gain an understanding of manufacturing/engineering processes, UI design, materials, and color and finish. The assignment afforded skills in prototyping, sketching, and the use of 3D modeling to convey the designer's final concept.

MotoLINK is tailored to meet the needs of the busy American teenager — an audience accustomed to instant communication via technology. Teens can use the camera to capture and personalize photos of their friends and family, and then send quick updates through a second touch screen dedicated to their social network. The system allows for a more fluid and personal connection with those who matter most.

motoLINK offers two modes of use. Moving the slider one notch up will reveal the camera button and open the lens on the camera. Slide the cover one notch further and the camera ejects and flips around to enable portrait mode. Once the image is captured and personalized with a message, the teen simply drags and drops the photo to the second touch screen and it is delivered instantly. A system of customizable LED lights are arranged on the back of the phone, which alert the teen to new messages or updates. They can also be programmed to act as a sound equalizer when playing videos or music.

New communication system-Unliquited

Unliquited is a new communication system consisting of two main parts, a mobile phone and a server, wireless connected with each other.

This division allows moving the main electronic components like CPU, and memory from the phone to the server which implies that only the basic hardware stays part of the mobile device. The server processes the software and applications that you can transfer to your phone by touching the screen which works as the interface of the server. This displacement reduces the components inside the phone so that less materials and energy is required to produce and introduce the phone on the consumer market.
