LG Optimus 3D to be called 3D MAX, with or without the Optimus

A few days ago leaked the first images of the rumored as the Optimus 3D successor - LG CX2.

The CX2 is supposed to feature a better processor, superior display, slimmer shell and even better connectivity options (incl. NFC).

Today a reportedly trustful source disclosed to GSM Israel the market name for the CX2 - it's going to be the LG 3D MAX or rather Optimus 3D MAX.

In case you've missed a detail, the 3D MAX should run on a 1.2GHz dual-core processor (TI OMAP chipset) and use a 4.3" WVGA NOVA 3D display capable of better 2D-to-3D conversion. The two cameras will remain 5 megapixels, but it's yet to see if they will be capable of 1080p 3D videos. The 3D smartphone will most probably run on Android Gingerbread with much more 3D stuff than its predecessor.

Anyway, the MWC is coming in a few weeks, so the announcement should be around the corner. You can bet we will be there to cover everything for you.

LG Optimus 3D, Optimus Black and Optimus LTE all in line for Ice Cream Sandwich

In addition to the LG Optimus 2X, the company announced on Facebook is is planning to upgrade to Android Ice Cream Sandwich the LG Optimus 3D, Optimus Black and Optimus LTE as well, and we hope their US versions will follow suit.

All of these handsets held something "first" in their description when they launched this year, so it's only fair they will be given the ICS treatment by LG. The Optimus 2X was the first dual-core handset, the Optimus 3D the first with a parallax barrier screen and dual-channel memory, the Optimus Black held the "brightest screen" title for a while with its 700 nits, and the LG Optimus LTE was the first handset to be announced with an HD display and 4G LTE connectivity.

These "firsts" didn't translate into big sales for LG this year, but it takes time to bend customer perceptions, and quick upgrades to the newest version of Android is just what the doctors order in these circumstances. Good news is that other LG handsets might also get the ICS update after a functionality review, and the update schedule will be up in December so each owner knows when to expect the goods. LG confirms today that the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS will be initially available for the following high-end LG smartphones which were introduced this year: the Optimus 2X, the Optimus Black, the Optimus 3D and the Optimus LTE. We are also continuing to evaluate the ICS OS to determine whether it is compatible with the functionality, features and performance of other LG smartphones to make the ICS OS available on as many LG smartphones as possible.

Does this mean that the upcoming LG Nitro HD for AT&T we got a picture of recently will get an ICS update later on, or come directly with the latest Android onboard? December 1 might tell.

Black Friday for Target means a $49 LG Optimus V with no contract

We've already passed along some leaked information about Black Friday deals at a few locations like Radio Shack and Best Buy. Now, we have a leaked copy of Target's flyer and it shows a paucity of Black Friday smartphone offerings from the discount retailer. In fact, we count only one Android deal on the circular and that is for Virgin Mobile's LG Optimus V. The Black Friday price is $49 which is a cut of $80. And you can put away your pen as this deal does not require you to sign a contract. The deal begins Thanksgiving at midnight.

The LG Optimus V is equipped with a 3.2 inch display and is powered by a 600MHz processor with Android 2.2 installed. A 3.2MP camera is on back and pre-installed on the device is the Swype keyboard. Sure, it is not the hottest Android model around, but how many smartphones with Google's open source OS aboard can you find for $49 with out a contract?

Gingerbread update for LG Optimus 3D starts rolling out next week

Remember that early Gingerbread ROM for the LG Optimus 3D? Sure, it was in a state too crude to be used on a daily basis, but it was good for one thing, namely spoiling the surprise by revealing what goodies the upcoming update is about to bring.

Well, the Gingerbread update for the LG Optimus 3D is now officially starting to roll out next week, November 21 to be precise. Europeans who own and unlocked version of the smartphone will be the first to try it out, yet additional markets and handset variations will be added to the list by the year's end.

What the Gingerbread update adds is pretty much what we already know thanks to the aforementioned leak. Editing footage on the Optimus 3D will be possible thanks to the inclusion of a 3D video editor, and the video stabilization feature will be available in both 3D and 2D modes. In addition, the performance of the Gallery app has been boosted, while the MP3 playback time has been extended. Not to be forgotten are the faster 21Mbps HSPA+ connectivity that the LG Optimus 3D is about to get, and all of the improvements that Android 2.3 Gingerbread brings to the platform.

LG Optimus 3D Gingerbread Update Coming This Month

It looks like the LG Optimus 3D will be finally getting the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update, and according to the guys over at Android Central the update should be released on the 21st of November. The Android 2.3 Gingerbread update will bring a range of new features to the LG Optimus 3D, as well as some new 3D specific features which include 3D video editing and 3D to 2D video conversion at higher bit rates.

We heard yesterday that LG will be bringing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to some of their high end Android devices, so we presume that the Optimus 3D will be getting this update in the future, although this has yet to be confirmed by LG.

LG Optimus 2X To Get Android Ice Cream Sandwich Update

There has been a fair bit if talk over the last few days about whether the LG Optimus 2X and other LG Optimus Android devices would be getting updated to the latest version of Google’s Android OS, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Now LG has officially confirmed on Facebook, that the LG Optimus 2X along with other LG high end devices will be getting the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update.

LG firmly denies the rumors that claim LG will not be providing the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS update for the LG Optimus 2X. These rumors are NOT true. LG is currently in the process of planning the ICS OS update for the LG Optimus 2X as well as other LG high-end smartphones. Detailed information on the ICS OS update schedule for specific models will be announced, once the ICS OS is publicly released by Google. Please stay tuned for more updates from LG. LG hasn’t mentioned as yet which devices will be getting the update but we would presume it would be their latest devices.
