iPhone Gets Live Streaming With Time Warner Cable App

After finally issuing a version of its TWC TV app for Android tablets and phones (sans-live TV streaming, for now) Time Warner Cable has finally made its iOS version, which launched last March on the iPad, compatible with the iPhone and iPod Touch. There's no additional charge for the app which allows for the aforementioned live TV viewing (as long as you're on your home WiFi) and DVR scheduling, and the accompanying blog post reveals the available list of channels has reached 196. We should probably mention that the app is unlikely to play nicely with any jailbroken iOS devices it encounters, so some extra hackery may be in order to get things working there.

iPhone owners can now watch what’s on Time Warner Cable even if they are not at home as TWC has updated its iOS app to allow live streaming. The new app also allows you to control your Time Warner cable and access an interactive programming guide, aside from the direct streaming to the phone mentioned above.

The remote control function is pretty straightforward, as it gives you control of your set-top box right from your phone. The interactive programming guide, on the other hand, is a great addition as it allows the user to manage DVR recordings and even set your unit to record a programme at a certain time. Now you don’t have to miss your favourite shows as you can schedule them beforehand, with Time Warner Cable allowing TV listings up to seven days on its interactive programming guide.

  1. So there is now a bit of limited streaming available to TWC's iOS customers?? This is pretty cool.....but I would still rather skip the small steps and enjoy my TV Everywhere. I have DISH, and whereas many of the other cable providers offer TVE in your own home, DISH lets you take it all with you. I'm not sure as to the full capability of TWC, but I know I can take ALL my live channels, streaming content AND my DVR with me anywhere I get at least 3G or WiFi! I work a pretty erratic schedule, and this helps me control my system from afar. I can't tell you how many times I've left for work in the morning, only to find out midday I forgot to set the DVR for that night. This eliminates that problem, and I can even catch the game live from the break room at work. When my boss at DISH told me this would be available to employees, I signed right up. It makes me glad I have DISH, and full control of my TV system!
