New Sony Ericsson Xperia model code named Pepper, gets blurry treatment on camera
The Sony Ericsson joint venture will soon be over, but the combo is still pulling models out of their hat for now. A new Sony Ericsson Xperia model code named Pepper appeared on the Xperia Blog with a model number of MT27i. Said to be the successor to the Sony Ericsson Xperia neo, this new model offers a 3.7 inch display with resolution of 480 x 854. Under the hood is a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, possibly the ST-Ericsson NoveThor U8500 chipset. The device will have a 5MP camera which captures video at 720p, and a front-facing camera. A 1320mAh battery is expected to be powering the device.
The Sony Ericsson Pepper will probably get to be displayed at CES and there is speculation that while it will be running on Android 2.3 at launch, it will shortly thereafter be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich. Also, with Sony removing its long time joint venture partner from the company's name after buying out Ericsson, there is a possibility that this phone could have just the Sony name on it when released. While no exact date has been set, it has been rumored that the Ericsson name will be removed from handsets produced after the middle of this year.
