Sprint's Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch

Samsung's Epic 4G for Sprint was one of the best smartphones of all time, and now the Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch looks to pick up right where its predecessor left off. This $199 device loses the physical keyboard but gains a much larger display (4.5 inches vs. 4 inches), a speedier dual-core 1.2-GHz processor, and an 8-MP camera that can shoot 1080p video. Considering that all of this comes in a 0.38-inch thin package, the Epic 4G Touch has all the right ingredients to be Sprint's top phone--yes, even if the carrier gets the iPhone 5. Read on to find out if Sprint's version of the Galaxy S II lives up to the Epic part of the device's very long name.

Much like the European version of the Galaxy S II, which has been available for a number of months already, the Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch is powered by a dual-core, 1.2GHz Samsung Exynos processor and has an 8 megapixel rear camera with autofocus and flash that can record 1080p HD (1920 x 1080 pixel) video. A 2 megapixel front-facing camera takes care of video chat duties. The Sprint version of the phone measures 68.58mm x 129.54mm x 9.65mm (2.7in x 5.1in x 0.38in) and weighs 129g (4.55oz). A 1,800mAh battery provides juice for the Epic 4G Touch.

The Epic 4G Touch runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Samsung's custom TouchWiz interface. It also has Vlingo's voice recognition app pre-installed, and features built-in screen shot capabilities.
