iPad 2 and iPhone 4S Jailbroken on iOS 5 Firmware

The iPad 2 has been jailbroken on the new iOS 5 firmware. After a long wait, the 9.7 inch second gen iPad tablet PC has received a jailbreak treatment from the iPhone Dev Team, allowing its users to access Cydia Store as well as download and install their favorite Cydia tweaks and apps. or those of you who aren’t ware, if everything goes according to iPhone Dev Team’s plans, this will be the second time that the general public will get a jailbreak after Apple permanently patched the web-based JailbreakMe 3.0 userland exploit by releasing the iOS 4.3.4 and iOS 4.3.5 software update for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch.

After the Cupertino, California-based Apple released the iOS 5 firmware to the general public, iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch users have been waiting for an untethered jailbreak solution to jailbreak iOS 5. Fortunately, since getting an untethered jailbreak exploit is not that easy as we think, the iPhone Dev Team as well as iPhone hacker iH8sn0w released (an ever reliable) tethered jailbreak solution in the form of Redsn0w 0.9.9 and Sn0wbreeze 2.8b8. And just recently, a SemiTether iOS 5 jailbreak solution has been released in Cydia Store. However, iPad 2 and new iPhone 4S users, are not so lucky to get a tether or SemiTether jailbreak on iOS 5. This is primarily because of the fact that the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S uses an A5 dual-core chip which makes it’s a lot harder to jailbreak as this new A5 chip is not susceptible with Limera1n bootrom exploit.

Good news is, MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team has posted a tweet with an image of a jailbroken iPhone 4S running on (pre-installed) iOS 5 firmware. The iPhone Dev Team’s spokesperson also confirmed that the same iPhone / iPad Jailbreak tool and exploit that they used to jailbreak iPhone 4S on iOS 5 will also work to jailbreak iPad 2 running on iOS 5 firmware. However, MuscleNerd also announced that there’s still a lot of work to do before they release the final version of the new iOS 5 jailbreak and there’s no ETA at the moment.
