LG Nitro HD announced for AT&T in US

Finally, LG Nitro HD makes its debut in US with AT&T and this is the third 4G LTE heading to the carrier. LG Nitro HD comes packed with a 720p display and this is the unique selling factor for the device. Infact, LG Nitro HD looks exactly like the LG Optimus LTE and this is'nt a bad thing. However, we believe that the performance will vary in that case.

Two of its main features include LTE connectivity and its stunning display. The Nitro happens to have a similar display as the iPhone’s, which they call Retina Display. The iPhone’s screen is something Apple has always been proud of. This Advanced High-Performance IPS display is actually better, though. It happens to be bigger (4.5-inches) and the resolution is much better (1280×720, 329ppi). Let’s take a deeper look at the specs:

LG Nitro Specifications include:

Android 2.3 Gingerbread

4.5-inch “True HD IPS” display

TI OMAP 1.5 GHz dual-core processor

1 GB of RAM

20 GB of storage capacity – 4 GB of on board memory / 16 GB micro SD card

8 MP rear-facing camera

1.3 MP front-facing camera

LTE connectivity / backed up by HSPA+ where LTE not available

WiFi Direct, MHL, DLNA

Nitro HD sports an 8.0 megapixel camera on the rear-side and 1.3 megapixel camera on front. The rear camera is a 1080p shooter with LED flash. Apparently, this smartphone works with 4G LTE and offers lighting fast data speeds. Meanwhile it offers Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi connectivity options. LG Nitro HD is available with a standard two year contract from AT&T for $249.

The New LG Nitro HD

The Nitro HD is one of a new wave of smartphones (along with handsets like the HTC Rezound and upcoming Samsung Galaxy Nexus) that is upping the ante for screen resolution into high-definition territory, with a 1,280 x 720 screen resolution.
The Nitro HD's display is one of the nicest I've seen on any smartphone so far. Streaming video, websites, apps all looked detailed and worthy of being called high definition. Colors came though balanced and accurate. Images looked smooth, with pixelation hard to find due to a density of 326-pixels-per-inch, which is the same pixel density as the iPhone 4 and 4S.
Looking around the sides of the smartphone, there’s nothing really out of character with it seeing we find things like its volume rocker, power button, noise cancellation microphone, 3.5mm headset jack, standard microphone, and microUSB port. Turned off because it doesn’t offer a microHDMI port? Well, fear not because you can connect an MHL adapter to its microUSB port to gain video out functionality. As great as the Nitro HD's hardware is, it's the software, both in its current form and its undefined future, that holds this phone back from living up to its potential.

LG Nitro HD with its 720p display and 4G LTE connectivity is available today for $250 through AT&T

Getting into the whole 720p display craze, AT&T customers have the fine opportunity of finally picking up the carrier’s very first Android powered smartphone with a 720p display on board. Naturally, the LG Nitro HD’s 4.5” 720p True HD IPS display is going to impress a lot of people with its crunching pixel density of 329 ppi, but beyond that, it’s also one of the few 4G LTE devices on the carrier’s handset selection.

Dishing out $249.99 with your signature on a 2-year contract, or a staggering $599.99 outright, will get you into the latest and one of the most highly prized devices out there right now. Of course, when it’s priced where it is, there’s obviously a lot of high-end goodness that will appease people – like its 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 8-megapixel auto-focus camera with LED flash, 1080p video recording, aGPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi.

Even better, if you happen to live in an area that has AT&T’s 4G LTE network up and running, you’ll be able to unlock the handset’s true potential in obtaining lightning fast data speeds. However, some might still be hesitant about picking it up seeing it’s running Android 2.3 Gingerbread – though, it’s more than likely to receive an update in the future for it.

Nevertheless, if you’re on AT&T and want something that stands out more than others, the LG Nitro HD is going to be the perfect fit.

AT&T officially announces the LG Nitro HD, available on December 4th

AT&T officially announces the LG Nitro HD, available on December 4th
Not that there was any doubt as to what LG planned to announce at their Thursday night launch event, but in case one or two of you simply couldn’t hold out any longer, AT&T removed the suspense by announcing the LG Nitro HD handset, which will be available in stores and online on December 4th.

The Nitro HD is AT&T’s version of the Optimus LTE, and like it will sport a monstrous 4.5” 720p screen, a dual core 1.5GHz CPU, 1 GB of RAM, and an LTE radio. LTE is a bit of a novelty on AT&T right now, but the phone's radioa will work on all of the 15 LTE markets available on AT&T. AT&T points out that before the end of the year their LTE network will cover 70 million Americans.

The Nitro HD also has HSPA+, which should tide over the rest of you while you pine away for AT&T to bring their LTE goodness to your neck of the woods. If you’re interested, the Nitro HD will be $249.99 with a two-year contract.

Who’s planning to pick one of these up for the holidays?

LG holding launch event on December 1st, LG Nitro to be unleashed?

LG holding launch event on December 1st, LG Nitro to be unleashed?
LG is sending out invitations for a major launch event they will be holding on Thursday, December 1st. While the invitation is short on details, the image file contained the name “LG Nitro”, which ssuggests we’ll be seeing the LG Nitro HD get unveiled next week.

The Nitro HD is thought to be an AT&T variant of the Optimus LTE, which is already available in Korea. The Nitro HD has starred in a couple blurry-cam shots. It will be a dual-core handset shipping with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and the now-standard 1GB of ram. It is rumored to be coming with a 4.5 inch 720p display, which would make it the first phone to beat the pixel density of Apple’s iPad 4/4S display.

It is expected to be one of the first LTE phones on AT&T, although its generous specs and fast HSDPA+ radio should help it appeal to customers in a wide range of markets, not just the lucky ones that dwell within AT&T’s nascent LTE network.

Without an announcement the name could change, and obviously pricing is not yet available, although it seems like a good bet that these details will be revealed in another 9 days. Anyone on AT&T interested in picking one of these up?

LG Nitro HD could explode in the U.S. for AT&T

LG Nitro HD could explode in the U.S. for AT&T
The LG Optimus LTE has already been launched in Korea and the stand out feature on the device is the phone's True HD IPS display. LG says that the display looks better than AMOLED screens and has a ppi of 329, making it the first handset to beat the Retina display on the Apple iPhone 4 and the Apple iPhone 4S. And this is accomplished using the RGB matrix, not the PenTile one that many have complained about. On the Optimus LTE, the 720 x 1280 resolution is seen on a 4.5 inch display.

Any chance of this fabulous screen coming to the U.S? After all, a variant of the phone will be found on Bell Canada as we previously reported. The answer would seem to be affirmative as Pocketnow obtained a image of the phone that will be known as the LG Nitro HD for AT&T. The model is known as the P930 and besides that luscious screen, is equipped with a dual-core 1.5GHz processor and 1GB of RAM. An 8MP camera is on back while a 1.3MP front-facing camera allows for video chat. With LTE 4G connectivity the LG Nitro HD will also run over the carrier's HSDPA network at speeds as high as 21Mbps.

With the phone not yet introduced by AT&T, we have no word on pricing and availability. What we do know is that the 4.5 inch screen sounds simply amazing-we can't wait to feast our eyes on it-and with the rest of the high-end specs, this beast is going to be an important release for the Korean based manufacturer. Unfortunately, it looks like Android 2.3 will be installed out of the box instead of Ice Cream Sandwich.
