LG holding launch event on December 1st, LG Nitro to be unleashed?

LG is sending out invitations for a major launch event they will be holding on Thursday, December 1st. While the invitation is short on details, the image file contained the name “LG Nitro”, which ssuggests we’ll be seeing the LG Nitro HD get unveiled next week.

The Nitro HD is thought to be an AT&T variant of the Optimus LTE, which is already available in Korea. The Nitro HD has starred in a couple blurry-cam shots. It will be a dual-core handset shipping with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and the now-standard 1GB of ram. It is rumored to be coming with a 4.5 inch 720p display, which would make it the first phone to beat the pixel density of Apple’s iPad 4/4S display.

It is expected to be one of the first LTE phones on AT&T, although its generous specs and fast HSDPA+ radio should help it appeal to customers in a wide range of markets, not just the lucky ones that dwell within AT&T’s nascent LTE network.

Without an announcement the name could change, and obviously pricing is not yet available, although it seems like a good bet that these details will be revealed in another 9 days. Anyone on AT&T interested in picking one of these up?

LG Optimus 2X not getting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

The LG Optimus 2X is not going to get updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, LG has confirmed via its Facebook page.

“Dear Anant, We will not be introducing Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich updates on LG Optimus 2X P990. Keep watching this space for further updates,” LG replied to a question.

Now, that’s not a huge surprise - LG hasn’t even brought Android 2.3 Gingerbread to their dual-core Optimus 2X. It’s interesting to see, though, what’s the reasoning behind such decision from LG as Samsung in contrast has said that all previous devices with enough horsepower should be compatible with the 4.0 update.

The LG Optimus 2X was the very first handset to arrive with a dual-core processor, and it’s a bit more affordable than the rest of the dual-core crowd. At the same time, it offers top-notch specs, so it’s really a pity it won’t get Android’s latest version.

LG Electronics posts disappointing quarterly results: handset loss grows bigger

LG Electronics has posted its financials for the third quarter of 2011 and the light at the end of the tunnel grows dimmer for the Korean phone maker as it hasn't managed to patch the hole in its handset division. The company is in the red for a sixth consecutive quarter, but what's really troubling is that handset losses were more than double than those from last trimester. LG posted some $124 million (140 billion won) loss, widening from 55 billion won in Q2 2011.

The company underwent a major shift in top executives as Kon Bon-joon took over in an attempt to save the company's mobile department. Recovery has been slow up until this quarter, and even more so after the results for Q3 2011.

The results are partly explained by the lack of a worthy competitor to Samsung's Galaxy S II and Apple's iPhone in the quarter.

Other departments at LG were doing better as the company shipped a record number of TVs as that business remains profitable.

LG, the world's third biggest phone maker, however still has an ace up its sleeve – it has announced the LG Optimus LTE in Korea and it boasts a 4.5” IPS 720p screen and a 1.5GHz dual-core processor by Qualcomm. This definitely puts it on par with the cream of the crop Androids. The only big phone maker that still hasn't reported results is Samsung. The other Korean giant is expected to give us its quarterly results on Friday and - chances are - it will surpass Apple as the biggest smartphone maker globally.

Entry-level droid: LG E2

LG has launch a new Android powered smartphone called the LG E2 sometime soon. The LG E2 (codenamed) is an entry-level droid with  a sub-1GHz processor and a sub-3MP camera.

The upcoming Android smartphone from LG is expected to run on Android v2.3 Gingerbread operating system and probably powered by a sub-gigahertz processor i.e likely 1000Mhz processor. It has a quite stylish look and comes loaded with a bunch of features.

It’s featuring an unknown sized TFT capacitive touchscreen, 256K colors display, 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus, Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, and soon.

This mobile has available in market around Rupees 27000 or $600. This upcoming Android smartphone expected to come sometime in September, 2011.
