Nokia Lumia 900 Specifications Revealed?

We know that Nokia has another new Windows Phone device in the works, the Nokia Lumia 900, and now it would appear that we may have some actual specifications of the device.

According to the Geek Tech Blog, who have apparently got their hands on the device, although they don’t have any actual photos, the Nokia Lumia 900 will feature a larger display than the Lumia 800, with a 4.3 inch AMOLED touchscreen display and a 1.4GHz processor. We heard previously that the Lumia 900 will go on sale in January of 2012, although it may end up coming slightly later than this either some time in quarter one or quarter two of 2012.

Nokia Lumia Live show to project on the 30-story Millbank Tower in London at 9pm UK tonight

As we told you Friday, Nokia is prepping quite a spectacle tonight, and if you happen to be in London it is shaping up to be great entertainment. We have a starting time now - 9pm UK time, with the Nokia Lumia Live projection show meant to be the biggest video-mapping fun of its kind to grace Great Britain, and will be projected across the Thames River on the wall of the Millbank Tower.

The building is 30-story high, and the Drive Productions team has been hard at work to fit 400-feet butterflies and other surprises on the width and length of the skyscraper. As a reminder, the powerful projectors will be dancing to the tunes of the iconic deadmau5, with a dedicated live soundtrack created for the event. The whole ordeal is expected to last mere four minutes, but judging from the video below the guys from Drive Productions know how to make those minutes worth your while. The soundtrack will be broadcast live on Nokia UK's Facebook site.

Nokia confirms the N8 successor is coming next year, sort of

Rest assured cameraphone fans, Nokia is still thinking about you. The manufacturer of the N8 is already working on its successor, which will come out some time next year. The confirmation came at the Nokia Lumia 800 launch event in Russia and was brought by the company VP Eric Bertman so it's pretty official.

According to him, next year Nokia will be releasing something even better than the N8 in 2012. He didn't provide any more details, like the OS that the device will be using. Previously we heard that Symbian is very much on the cards, but Windows Phone certainly seems the more probable platform of choice of the new cameraphone king.

What Mobile bestows Phone of the Year award to the Nokia Lumia 800

We reported earlier that the Nokia Lumia 800’s release in the UK on Wednesday yielded mixed reviews on initial sales. While Nokia reported a great launch, two carriers reported that the actual sales were not as strong as the iPhone 4S or high-end Android devices. While we wait for everyone to sort out sales numbers and debates whether or not a comparison to iPhone 4S sales is a realistic way to measure the success of a launch, what we found out for sure is, readers of What Mobile, a UK magazine, are enamored with Nokia’s first Windows Phone.

What Mobile launched its annual poll in October, before the phone was even available in the UK. After thousands of readers cast their votes, the Nokia Lumia 800 came away with the Mobile Phone of the Year award. Nokia responded to the win by saying on its blog, “We’re delighted with the reactions to the Nokia Lumia 800, but this one caps them all.” Nokia went on to say, “We’d like to say a big thank-you to What Mobile readers for their support.”

What Mobile editor Richard Melville said, “It’s no secret that Nokia make great phones but with a new Windows Phone Mango operating system, great design and a competitive price, the Lumia 800 feels like real innovation for smartphones and, importantly, one that’s cool enough to attract everyone from gadget geeks to casual, fashion conscious phone users.”

SIM Free Nokia Lumia 800 Hits The UK 16th November After All

We heard that the SIM free version of the Nokia Lumia 800 wouldn’t be available in the UK until January 2012, the news came from mobile retailer Clove, but now Nokia has confirmed that the Sim free version of the Lumia 800 will be available on launch day on the 16th of November.

Speaking to Pocket Lint, Nokia has confirmed that the SIM free Lumia 800 will be available from certain companies, so I suspect that would appear where the initial confusion came from, as other companies wont get it until January 2012. The Nokia Lumia 800 goes on sale on the 16th of November as we stated during the launch at Nokia World. There are some rather odd stories circulating at present, it’s rather flattering as it proves that there are a lot of people who believe the Lumia 800 will be a major sales item and are now trying to get it onto their shelves.

However for the rollout of our first Lumia products, we have chosen to work with the UK operator and retail partners who shared our enthusiasm and commitment to bring these first products to market with a major focus on bringing alive the Nokia with Windows Phone experience for consumers. Therefore we are making sure that by using these channels the Lumia 800 will be available to our customers in the widest variety of outlets from SIM free to contract. We don’t have any details as yet on which companies will offer the SIM free version of the Nokia Lumia 800.

Nokia N8 might be getting a sequel in 2012 running Symbian still, but this time with optical zoom

The Nokia N8 is in the works, and is about to land in Q2 2012. This seems primed to be announced at MWC 2012 in Barcelona, since CES 2012 might be stealing the spotlight on the Nokia Windows Phones side. The new camera-centric Nokia is supposed to have an even better camera than its predecessor, and with optical zoom to boot, which is the main request of the fans that use what is arguably the best camera on a cell phone. Resolution is not specified, although we wouldn't be surprised if that number doesn't change from 12MP, which is already plenty.

We do get some alleged bump in specs, though - the Nokia N8 upgrade is supposed to have a 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, and sport a 3.5" screen, like the current one, but with 480x800 pixels of resolution. What struck as odd is that it is still supposed to run Symbian, which doesn't support WVGA resolutions yet, but that might have been remedied by then. Moreover, high-resolution screens, multicore processors, and sophisticated camera shenanigans support are not coming to Windows Phone before the Apollo update. These specs seem equal to what the current high-end Symbian Belle handsets, like the Nokia 701 have, so that's what we could have on the Nokia N8 sequel, with an update for higher screen resolution support.

Alright, it's not that simple, but the company's marketing team did make a concerted effort to find a moniker ending with a vowel sound. Nokia N9 Gets Updated

Nokia has released a software update for their N9 MeeGo smartphone, and the update, PR1.1 is designed to bring a range of new features to the Nokia N9 as well as some bug fixes.

There are a total of 308 enhancements in the Nokia N9 update, which include tweaks to improve general performance, the addition of the Swype keyboard, and music controls have been added to the lock screen. Nokia has also update the N9′s camera with a range of color filters, and they have also made some improvements to multitasking on the N9, plus improvements to WiFi and more.
