Samsung Galaxy Beam Up For Pre-order In The UK

One of the new smartphones that Samsung showed off at this years MWC, was the Samsung Galaxy Beam which comes with built in projector, the device is expected to launch in the UK in July and it is now available to pre-order.

The Samsung Galaxy Beam features a 4 inch display with a resolution of 800 x 400 pixels, a 5 megapixel rear camera for video and photos and a front facing 1.3 megapixel camera for video chat, plus a built in video projector that can project images and video up to 50 inches.

The Samsung Galaxy beam comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and it also features 8GB of built in storage, Samsung have said that it will get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich shortly after release.

UK retailer Clover have just put the Galaxy Beam up for pre-order with a price of £454.80 including taxes, although they have also said that this price may change slightly between now and launch.

New Samsung Galaxy S III Image Leaked

With so many interested parties digging for early information about the Samsung Galaxy S III, the successor to its immensely popular Galaxy S II Android handset, it's no surprise that multiple sources are claiming to strike gold with leaked images and specs. Netherlands-based mobile blog GSM Helpdesk (in Dutch) is the latest to post an image that it claims is none other than the anticipated smartphone, and an official press shot at that. There's a fair chance this could be the real thing, at least design-wise--the phone's shape in the image is almost identical to one that posted on Reddit earlier this week.

There are a few differences, though. First, this image depicts an interface that looks like it could be Android 2.3 Gingerbread and not the expected Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS (although it isn't clear what that will look like with Samsung's typical TouchWiz skin.) Second, the navigation array may differ in these two photos--a central hardware button on one and three touch-sensitive buttons on the other--but that's also in keeping with various global models of the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Samsung Galaxy Note, for instance.

When can we expect Samsung's official proclamation of the Galaxy S III? Internet chatter points to a May 22 press conference in London. Rumors suggest that the Galaxy S III will pack in a 1.5GHz quad-core Samsung Exynos processor, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 4.8-inch HD AMOLED screen, and support for LTE. It's also expected to have a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p HD video capture and playback, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera capable of shooting 720p HD video, Bluetooth 4.0, and NFC support.

Samsung Galaxy Pocket Android Smartphone Announced

Meet the Samsung Galaxy Pocket, officially announced today. The Galaxy Pocket measures 103.7 x 57.5 x 12 mm, and comes with a 2.8 inch QVGA display – this making it almost the same size as the Samsung Champ (the company’s smallest touchscreen handset ever).

Needless to say, the Galaxy Pocket is made for budget users. It runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread with an “upgraded TouchWiz UI,” and features HSDPA 3.6 Mbps, Wi-Fi, GPS, accelerometer, digital compass, Samsung’s ChatON communication service, Social Hub, 3.5mm headset jack, Bluetooth 3.0, stereo FM radio with RDS, 832MHz processor, 2MP rear camera with QVGA video recording, and a 1,200 mAh battery. The new, tiny smartphone also comes with 3GB of internal memory, expandable to 35GB via a MicroSD card slot. All in all, not bad for a budget device – if you don’t mind the QVGA display.

The Samsung Galaxy Pocket will be first available in the UK, sometime “later this year”. Its price hasn’t been unveiled, but I really don’t think it’s going to be higher than €150. Now, since you’re already introduced two entry-level sartphones this year (the Pocket, and the Mini 2).

Samsung Galaxy S Advance Appears At The FCC

The Samsung Galaxy S Advance was announced back in January, and the device has just appeared at the FCC in the US, an it looks like it is headed to US mobile carrier AT&T. As a reminder, the Samsung Galaxy S Advance comes with a 4 inch WVGA Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and it will come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

The Samsung Galaxy S Advance also features a dual core 1GHz processor, plus 768MB of RAM, and a front facing 1.3 megapixel camera for video chat, on the back there is a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus and an LED flash, the rear camera can record HD video in 720p at 30 frames per second. Other specifications include a choice of either 8GB or 16GB of built in storage, plus a microSD card slot which can take up to 32GB cards, there are no details on pricing for the US as yet.

Samsung Galaxy S II Wins Best Smartphone Award At MWC 2012

Samsung’s Galaxy S II smartphone has been an incredibly popular device, and probably one of the most popular Android smartphones available at the moment. The of this years GSMA award fro the best smartphone at this years Mobile World Congress has just been announced, and Samsung’s Galaxy S II has taken the top spot, beating off competition from Apple’s iPhone and other devices.

Last year Apple took the top spot at MWC 2011, so we suspect Samsung are more than a little pleased to have won the award this year, and we wonder who will win next year, possibly Samsung with the new Galaxy S III or Apple with the iPhone 5.

Samsung are expected to launch the new Galaxy S III later this year, and from the rumors we have heard so far it looks like it will be an impressive device, although whether it will be as popular as the Galaxy S III remains to be seen.

Samsung Rugby Smart Gets Official, Lands On AT&T March 4th

It was only a matter of time, we suppose. After having seen the Samsung Rugby Smart poke its head out from time to time, Samsung's new rugged smartphone is officially hitting AT&T stores on March 4th. Much like the Pantech Element, the Rugby Smart will be "waterproof," meaning it can be submerged for up to 30 minutes in one meter of water. The phone itself is built to mil-spec 810F standards, so it's going to handle most extreme conditions pretty well. So let's list off the specs we've heard so far: it will launch with Android 2.3 -- shocker, we know -- as well as a 3.7-inch WVGA Super AMOLED panel, 4GB of internal storage, 1,650mAh battery and a 1.3MP front-facing shooter for video chat along with a 5MP rear facing autofocus camera with LED flash and 720p video capture. The Smart will also be 12.19mm thick (also not a surprise, given its rugged nature) and weigh 4.2 ounces. We don't know what CPU's inside yet, but we'll update as soon as we find out. Samsung Galaxy S Advance Preview

Introduction:

While dual-core processors are a common trait when high-end smartphones are concerned, mid range devices pretty much always stick to single-core CPUs. But not the Samsung Galaxy S Advance – inside it ticks a 1GHz dual-core chipset made by ST-Ericsson. The rest of its specs look pretty decent as well for a mid-range Android smartphone: 4-inch Super AMOLED display with WVGA resolution, 5-megapixel camera with auto-focus and LED flash, 14.4Mbps 3G radio, and 8 or 16 gigs of on-board storage. The Samsung Galaxy S Advance is not available on the market yet, but what we have here is a prototype unit of the smartphone. Care to learn more about it? Then read along.

Design:

Upon holding the Samsung Galaxy S Advance for the first time, we noticed that it sports more than a few design cues present in other Samsung devices, such as the Galaxy Nexus flagship. And that, of course, is a good thing as it adds a dose of premium feel to an otherwise mid-range device. On one hand, we have a curved glass display meant to follow the shape of the user's face more naturally. On the other, the fine texture on its back feels nice to the touch and adds a bit of extra grip. Furthermore, it is slightly thicker and heavier at the bottom, which makes it a bit more comfortable to grasp.

The outlay of the three Android buttons located under the smartphone's display is familiar as well: a big physical home key is located in the middle, accompanied by two capacitive buttons for the menu and back functions. Fortunately, the capacitive buttons are not prone to accidental presses. Last but not least, the volume rocker and power key, which reside on the smartphone's left and right side respectively, respond with an excellent click when pressed.

Android 4.0 For Samsung Galaxy S II Leaked Again

In another Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich leak for Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S II smartphone, we’re seeing a more stable build of the Android operating system. The engineering build bears the version I9100XXLPB and has a date of January 29. The version combines Google’s Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich along with Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz user interface experience overlay on top.

The new build is said to be a lot more stable than the prior version, which had the version I9100XXLP6. Both builds were designed for the international GSM version of the Galaxy S II smartphones. Samsung had promised that Android 4.0 will be coming to the Galaxy S II line early 2012, and it looks like the company is progressing along to making that happen. Samsung Galaxy S Advance Hits The UK Later This Month, Up For Pre-order

With Samsung’s Galaxy S III no longer expected at MWC 2012 later this month, we’ll have to make do with the Samsung Galaxy S Advance, officially announced on Monday and already up for pre-order. An variant of the original Galaxy S, the Galaxy S Advance I9070 is scheduled to drop roughly at the same time as the Barcelona mobile show, according to UK retailer Clove, with pre-orders priced at £295 ($467)plus tax.

That means a 4-inch Super AMOLED display running at WVGA resolution, along with a 1GHz dual-core processor paired with 768MB of RAM. There’s also 8GB of internal storage plus a microSD card slot. The 5-megapixel camera is paired with a 1.3-megapixel front-facer, and there’s the usual bevy of sensors and wireless: GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth and an FM radio. OS is Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Samsung’s own TouchWiz mods.

In case that all sounds reasonably familiar, you’re not going mad. Samsung revealed another iteration of the Galaxy S back in March 2011, the Galaxy S Plus, similar in many ways to this “Advance” model. The “Plus”, however, had a 1.4GHz single-core processor and only 512MB of RAM, though the battery is 150 mAh bigger.

If the Galaxy S Advance takes your fancy, shipments are expected in the week commencing February 27 2012. Of course, SlashGear will be at Mobile World Congress that week, bringing back all the juicy details as to what other phones Samsung and its rivals have to impress us with.

Samsung Sells 5 Million Galaxy S II Smartphones In South Korea

Back in September Samsung announced that they had sold over 10 million Samsung Galaxy S II smartphones, and now the company has announced that they have now sold over 5 million Galaxy S II devices in their domestic market, South Korea.

It took Samsung just 9 months to reach the 5 million Galaxy S II devices sold in South Korea, and the Samsung Galaxy S II is probably one of the most popular Android smartphones available on the market today.

Samsung also announced last October that they had sold a total of 30 million Galaxy S smartphones to date, and we suspect this number will be boosted considerably when the company unveils the new Samsung Galaxy S III. We are expecting Samsung to announced the Galaxy S III at Mobile World Congress 2012, which takes place in Barcelona next month, and we suspect that the new device could end up being even more popular than the Samsung Galaxy S II.

Samsung Star 3 And Star 3 Duos Mobile Phones Announced

Samsung has added a couple of new mobile phones to its range with the launch of the Samsung Star 3 and the Star 3 Duos, which will launch in Russia at first and will then be available in Europe and other countries around the world.

The two handsets share the same specifications, except that the Star 3 Duos comes with a dual SIM card slot allowing you to use two seperate SIM cards on the handset. The Star 3 and Star 3 Duos feature a 3 inch QVGA TFT LCD touchscreen display and a 3.2 fixed focus megapixel camera, and it also runs Samsung’s TouchWiz Lite.

“We are pleased to launch the Star 3 and Star 3 DUOS, a further enhanced version of the bestselling Samsung Star series. With the new Star 3 touch phones, Samsung continues to offer the best social networking experiences and opportunities for our feature phone users,” said JK Shin, President of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics.
