New Samsung Galaxy S III Image Leaked

With so many interested parties digging for early information about the Samsung Galaxy S III, the successor to its immensely popular Galaxy S II Android handset, it's no surprise that multiple sources are claiming to strike gold with leaked images and specs. Netherlands-based mobile blog GSM Helpdesk (in Dutch) is the latest to post an image that it claims is none other than the anticipated smartphone, and an official press shot at that. There's a fair chance this could be the real thing, at least design-wise--the phone's shape in the image is almost identical to one that posted on Reddit earlier this week.

There are a few differences, though. First, this image depicts an interface that looks like it could be Android 2.3 Gingerbread and not the expected Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS (although it isn't clear what that will look like with Samsung's typical TouchWiz skin.) Second, the navigation array may differ in these two photos--a central hardware button on one and three touch-sensitive buttons on the other--but that's also in keeping with various global models of the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Samsung Galaxy Note, for instance.

When can we expect Samsung's official proclamation of the Galaxy S III? Internet chatter points to a May 22 press conference in London. Rumors suggest that the Galaxy S III will pack in a 1.5GHz quad-core Samsung Exynos processor, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 4.8-inch HD AMOLED screen, and support for LTE. It's also expected to have a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p HD video capture and playback, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera capable of shooting 720p HD video, Bluetooth 4.0, and NFC support.

Samsung Galaxy Note Android 4.0 ICS Update Delayed?

When we met with Samsung General Manager Tim Wagner in Miami one of the things we talked about was the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Samsung Galaxy Note. With Ice Cream Sandwich being a hybrid update of sorts for both phones and tablets, and the Galaxy Note being both a phone and a tablet, we thought that Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, was a natural fit for the Galaxy Note. Samsung must have agreed with that logic at some point because they originally announced that the Galaxy Note, along with the Samsung Galaxy S II would see Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, before the end of Q1.

Today, Gottabemobile reported that Samsung Norway has told customers that they won’t see an Android 4.0 upgrade until sometime in the second quarter of 2012. Norway was presumed to be one of the first markets on tap for the upgrade for their customers with the Galaxy Note.

As we know all to well, the U.S. is usually last to see an Android OS update, and most definitely after their international counterparts. This could mean we won’t see the Ice Cream Sandwich man graze the beloved Galaxy Note until late in the second quarter or perhaps even Q3. The Galaxy Note is primed for the upgrade. After switching from a Galaxy Nexus to a Galaxy Note there were intuitive functions of Ice Cream Sandwich that would only feel natural on the 5.3″ phoneblet.

Samsung Galaxy Pocket Android Smartphone Announced

Meet the Samsung Galaxy Pocket, officially announced today. The Galaxy Pocket measures 103.7 x 57.5 x 12 mm, and comes with a 2.8 inch QVGA display – this making it almost the same size as the Samsung Champ (the company’s smallest touchscreen handset ever).

Needless to say, the Galaxy Pocket is made for budget users. It runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread with an “upgraded TouchWiz UI,” and features HSDPA 3.6 Mbps, Wi-Fi, GPS, accelerometer, digital compass, Samsung’s ChatON communication service, Social Hub, 3.5mm headset jack, Bluetooth 3.0, stereo FM radio with RDS, 832MHz processor, 2MP rear camera with QVGA video recording, and a 1,200 mAh battery. The new, tiny smartphone also comes with 3GB of internal memory, expandable to 35GB via a MicroSD card slot. All in all, not bad for a budget device – if you don’t mind the QVGA display.

The Samsung Galaxy Pocket will be first available in the UK, sometime “later this year”. Its price hasn’t been unveiled, but I really don’t think it’s going to be higher than €150. Now, since you’re already introduced two entry-level sartphones this year (the Pocket, and the Mini 2).

Samsung Rugby Smart Gets Official, Lands On AT&T March 4th

It was only a matter of time, we suppose. After having seen the Samsung Rugby Smart poke its head out from time to time, Samsung's new rugged smartphone is officially hitting AT&T stores on March 4th. Much like the Pantech Element, the Rugby Smart will be "waterproof," meaning it can be submerged for up to 30 minutes in one meter of water. The phone itself is built to mil-spec 810F standards, so it's going to handle most extreme conditions pretty well. So let's list off the specs we've heard so far: it will launch with Android 2.3 -- shocker, we know -- as well as a 3.7-inch WVGA Super AMOLED panel, 4GB of internal storage, 1,650mAh battery and a 1.3MP front-facing shooter for video chat along with a 5MP rear facing autofocus camera with LED flash and 720p video capture. The Smart will also be 12.19mm thick (also not a surprise, given its rugged nature) and weigh 4.2 ounces. We don't know what CPU's inside yet, but we'll update as soon as we find out. Samsung Galaxy S Advance Preview

Introduction:

While dual-core processors are a common trait when high-end smartphones are concerned, mid range devices pretty much always stick to single-core CPUs. But not the Samsung Galaxy S Advance – inside it ticks a 1GHz dual-core chipset made by ST-Ericsson. The rest of its specs look pretty decent as well for a mid-range Android smartphone: 4-inch Super AMOLED display with WVGA resolution, 5-megapixel camera with auto-focus and LED flash, 14.4Mbps 3G radio, and 8 or 16 gigs of on-board storage. The Samsung Galaxy S Advance is not available on the market yet, but what we have here is a prototype unit of the smartphone. Care to learn more about it? Then read along.

Design:

Upon holding the Samsung Galaxy S Advance for the first time, we noticed that it sports more than a few design cues present in other Samsung devices, such as the Galaxy Nexus flagship. And that, of course, is a good thing as it adds a dose of premium feel to an otherwise mid-range device. On one hand, we have a curved glass display meant to follow the shape of the user's face more naturally. On the other, the fine texture on its back feels nice to the touch and adds a bit of extra grip. Furthermore, it is slightly thicker and heavier at the bottom, which makes it a bit more comfortable to grasp.

You can compare the Samsung Galaxy S Advance with many other phones using our Size Visualization Tool. The outlay of the three Android buttons located under the smartphone's display is familiar as well: a big physical home key is located in the middle, accompanied by two capacitive buttons for the menu and back functions. Fortunately, the capacitive buttons are not prone to accidental presses. Last but not least, the volume rocker and power key, which reside on the smartphone's left and right side respectively, respond with an excellent click when pressed.

Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G to be another 42Mbps handset for T-Mobile

T-Mobile has confirmed the existence of the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G and pretty much all that we knew about it. Unfortunately, we can't add a release date yet, but we do know that the processor will be clocked at 1.5 GHz, while the display will be a Super AMOLED one.

T-Mobile doesn't really have a clear LTE strategy yet, but its HSPA+ rollout keeps getting faster and faster, even hitting the 42Mbps (theoretical) speeds in some markets. Unfortunately, there aren't too many handsets that can take advantage of those speeds.

A new report has the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G becoming just the 3rd device with a radio rated for 42Mbps. There still isn't a lot of news about the Blaze. We do know that it will be a T-Mobile device (obviously), and word has it that it will also feature a dual-core Snapdragon processor and knowing Samsung, it will likely also have a Super AMOLED screen.

The Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G is due out sometime this year. Even though we don't have a lot of info, it's interesting to see a device that would seem to fit in the mid-range for phones coming with 42Mbps support. It's good to see that not just the top tier is getting the speed. More details are expected soon.

Android 4.0 For Samsung Galaxy S II Leaked Again

In another Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich leak for Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S II smartphone, we’re seeing a more stable build of the Android operating system. The engineering build bears the version I9100XXLPB and has a date of January 29. The version combines Google’s Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich along with Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz user interface experience overlay on top.

The new build is said to be a lot more stable than the prior version, which had the version I9100XXLP6. Both builds were designed for the international GSM version of the Galaxy S II smartphones. Samsung had promised that Android 4.0 will be coming to the Galaxy S II line early 2012, and it looks like the company is progressing along to making that happen. Samsung has added a couple of new mobile phones to its range with the launch of the Samsung Star 3 and the Star 3 Duos, which will launch in Russia at first and will then be available in Europe and other countries around the world. The two handsets share the same specifications, except that the Star 3 Duos comes with a dual SIM card slot allowing you to use two seperate SIM cards on the handset. The Star 3 and Star 3 Duos feature a 3 inch QVGA TFT LCD touchscreen display and a 3.2 fixed focus megapixel camera, and it also runs Samsung’s TouchWiz Lite.

“We are pleased to launch the Star 3 and Star 3 DUOS, a further enhanced version of the bestselling Samsung Star series. T-Mobile has just announced another smartphone that will be made available to the masses – the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G. This is another handset that will fall under T-Mobile’s range of 4G devices, the third actually, where the Galaxy S Blaze 4G will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 processor that runs on dual-cores at 1.5GHz. Not only that, your eyes will also appreciate the brilliant Super AMOLED touch screen display alongside a host of pre-loaded entertainment to help you get started right out of the box. No idea on pricing, but we do know that the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G is being prepared for a release slightly down the road. Patience, my friend, is the key to unlocking its promise. It runs on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, although whether an Ice Cream Sandwich update is coming down the road or not remains to be seen.

Samsung Galaxy S III Coming In February 2012?

We have been hearing rumors about Samsung’s third generation Galaxy S smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S III over the last few months, and now according to a recent report Samsung are expected to unveil the Galaxy S III in February. The Samsung Galaxy S III is expected to be announced at Mobile World Congress 2012, which takes place next February, and we suspect it will be even more popular than the Galaxy S II.

We don’t as yet have any official specifications on the Samsung Galaxy S III, from what we heard before it may either come with a quad core 1.5GHz processor or Samsung’s new dual core 2GHz Exynos 5250 processor, 2GB of RAM and a 4.65 inch HD display with a 1280 x 720 resolution similar to the Galaxy Nexus. We are looking forward to seeing what the official specifications will be on the Samsung Galaxy S III when it is announced next year.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Lands On Verizon Today For $299.99

It is finally official, Verizon has announced that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be available on Verizon Wireless from today the 15th of December for $299.99 when you sign up to a new two year agreement. As a reminder the Samsung Galaxy Nexus comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and it features a 4.65 inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. There is also a dual core 1.2GHz processor, 32GB of storage, 1 GB of RAM, an advanced 5 megapixel camera which can record HD video in 1080p, and a 1,850 mAh battery.

A tipster sent in a shot of an internal VZW email outlining the next few weeks of launches and in-store displays. Chief amongst those is the December 8th arrival of banners, signs and other marketing materials for the world's first ICS handset. Our source reports that posters and all the relevant merch will be rolled out after close of business and the Nexus will officially go on sale December 9th. As a bonus, this also seems to confirm that the Droid 4 will be launching this Thursday. So, if you're fine with Gingerbread and have a thing for QWERTY keyboards December 8th could still be the day all your dreams come true. The rest of us will just have to wait just an extra 24 hours.

Samsung To Launch Dual SIM Galaxy Y Pro?

Samsung is going launch a dual SIM version of its Galaxy Y Pro, a website has reported. The handset, named Galaxy Y Pro Duos, looks quite like the current Galaxy Y Pro and even sports a front facing camera. Not much information about the device is available now. The price and availability of the phone is also not known yet.

Samsung Galaxy Y Pro is a budget smartphone targeted at those users who are heavily into emailing and texting. The keys on the Qwerty keypad of the phone are well separated, so the chances of accidentally pressing something are minimal. The display also works as touchscreen.

The display size is 2.6 inches when measured diagonally, and the resolution of the screen is 320X240 pixels. Since the screen size is slightly on the smaller side, reading webpages on it is not that easy. But the virtual zoom in and zoom out facility takes care of this problem. The phone has 160 MB of internal memory, which is expandable up to 32 GB.

White Samsung Galaxy SII Lands On T-Mobile December 14th

We heard a while back that the white Samsung Galaxy S II would be headed to US mobile carrier T-Mobile, and now T-Mobile has confirmed that the device will be available on their network from the 14th of December 2011.

T-Mobile haven’t released any pricing about the white version, although the standard version retails for $229 when you sign up to a new 24 month contract, and we suspect it will be priced the same.

The Galaxy S II on T-Mobile features a 4.52 inch WVGA Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen display, there is also Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread and it features a dual core 1.5GHz processor. Other specifications include an 8 megapixel camera which can record HD video in 1080p and it also features a front facing 1.3 megapixel camera for video chat.

Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket brings fireworks inside a man's pocket

Recently we published some news on a pair of Apple iPhone 4S units that suffered from spontaneous combustion. And with Apple's legal team alleging that the Korean based manufacturer has been copying Apple's designs for its own products, it is an amazing coincidence that a Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket literally exploded in a man's pocket. The man felt a burning sensation down his leg and when he reached to pullout his phone he smelled something burning. And in his hand was one literally hot handset.

Yes, Samsung was hoping that the model would explode in the U.S. and become a hot product, but not exactly like this. And perhaps the Korean based manufacturer had an idea that something like this could happen when it tacked on "Skyrocket" to the name of the phone. The charred model was a variant of the hugely successful Samsung Galaxy S II that is enabled for AT&T's fledging LTE network.

Samsung Illusion Hits Verizon Wireless November 23rd

The Samsung Illusion was recently announced, and now it would appear that the device will be available from Verizon wireless from tomorrow, the 23rd of November at Verizon online, but it looks like it won’t actually launch in Verizon stores until the 12th of January.

As a reminder, the Samsung Illusion comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and features a 3.5 inch touchscreen display with a 320 x 480 pixel resolution, plus 512MB of RAM and a single core 1GHz processor. There Illusion also features a 3 megapixel camera, plus 2GB of built in storage and a microSD card slot with a 2GB card pre-installed, and whilst no pricing has been announced it is expected to retail for about $100.

US Samsung Galaxy Nexus Launching 21st November?

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus went on sale in the UK yesterday, and now it looks like it will launch in the US next Monday, the 21st of November, a date we have previously heard would be the launch date on Verizon Wireless.

The guys over at the Verge have been told by Google that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus should be available ‘pretty much everywhere’ from the 21st of November.

We would expect some sort of official confirmation from Verizon some time later today, confirming that the Galaxy Nexus will launch in the US next Monday.

The Galaxy S II arrives pretty in pink for South Korea, Samsung's baseball team gets a Galaxy Tab 10.1 Lions edition

The Samsung Galaxy S II was one of the best Android flagships this year, proven by its record sales figures for Samsung, but the black plastic shell is nothing to phone home about. Granted, we have a white version, too, but nothing in between. Well, the company is righting this wrong by issuing a pink version. It looks pretty nice, and somehow not overly girly, although that is the obvious target market.

The Samsung Galaxy S II Pink Edition is going on sale in South Korea only for now, but we hope this one and more colored versions can make their way outside the Korean Peninsula, and into our trembling hands, it's a good way to keep the interest in the handset high. The company will also make 150 units of a Galaxy Tab 10.1 Lions Edition, to commemorate the title of its baseball team the Samsung Lions, in the Korean series.

Samsung Epic 4G finally getting its taste of Gingerbread

The Samsung Epic 4G, a popular variation of the original Samsung Galaxy S, is finally getting its serving of Android Gingerbread as Sprint has posted the update on the smartphone’s software update site.

The Samsung Epic 4G was slated to become an EOL (end of life) device at the end of October. It has already had a shelf life of 15 months which is a long time nowadays. While the new update won’t add any more cores to the processor or add the term Plus to the end of its Super AMOLED display, it will most certainly help make the Epic 4G feel new again in a time when a new flagship Android device is seemingly announced once a week.

The Epic 4G was and still is a solid device. Its 4-inch display is still a beauty to behold and its snappy 1GHz Hummingbird processor is a delight. It was only the second device on Sprint to run on the 4G WiMax network, launching just two months after the HTC EVO 4G. It is also the only variant of the Samsung Galaxy S to have a full sliding QWERTY keyboard, a feature that attracted many. The software update will bring some nice functionality to what is still a very good smartphone. Here is the list of improvements you can expect on your Epic 4G, according to Sprint:
