T-Mobile apologizes and removes ads from notification bar

A T-Mobile spokesperson just dropped the following statement into my inbox, advising customers they have discovered the cause of the Android notification bar advertisements and removed them. T-Mobile apologizes for the inconvenience and hopes we can all move on and have a nice weekend. Our story is just about 28 hours old, so we have to give the folks at Magenta some credit for a swift reaction to their customer concerns.

During a recent software update, a message to promote T-Mobile’s free VIP Zone was mistakenly sent to certain customers and appeared on the notification bar for some Android devices. After T-Mobile was made aware of this mistake, the company stopped the notifications. T-Mobile apologizes for the inconvenience this may have caused customers.

We researched prices on other carriers (and would leave-do to horrible customer service and poor network quality in my area) but T-mobile is so much cheeper than the better services out there-so its a soley financial decision to stay with T-mobile.

But it is interesting that people complain about them as if they are charging Verizon prices. It's mean you have to expect lower quality and lower quality service when the price is so much cheaper.

Going down from t-mobile in price, to say metro or simple mobile, we'r sure everyone would expect less coverage and cheaper handsets. T-mobile does a very good job of maintaining their network, offering high speed and good coverage, and providing cell phone options that (WHile incredibly overpriced sometimes) are quite competitive in today's market.

T-Mobile Amaze 4G And Sensation 4G To Get Android 4.0 Update Soon

Here’s some great news if your carrier of choice has the color magenta all over it, and you own either an HTC Amaze 4G or an HTC Sensation 4G. Both those phones will be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich at some point in the future. This information doesn’t come via a leak, but it’s officially straight from T-Mobile itself. The carrier has updated its support documents for both the Amaze 4G and the Sensation 4G, and the newly revised documentation clearly mentions ICS updates, as you can see.

Unfortunately though, T-Mobile hasn’t publicized any other details about these updates yet. So we don’t have any indication of when they will become available. However, the support documents should be constantly updated as new information comes out, so we’ll keep an eye on them for you and let you know the instant there’s any news on the matter.

One thing looks pretty clear. HTC’s Sense 4.0 seems limited to smartphones that are shipping with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich right out of the gate. So the HTC One series has this new (and trimmed down) version of Sense. But older devices such as the Amaze 4G and Sensation 4G will probably just get Sense 3.6, which (as its version number suggests) is just an incremental update to the Gingerbread-based Sense 3.5. You can’t have it all apparently, since HTC is desperate to sell some new phones, especially after the rather rough times it faced last year.

T-Mobile will have 10 LTE devices and iPhone-compatible 4G network by 2014

10 LTE devices and its 4G network will be compatible with a future T-Mo-branded iPhone by the end of 2013 by T-Mobile, chief technology officer Neville Ray said at the carrier’s Challenger Strategy conference call. T-Mobile’s CTO said the carrier will cover 50 major markets with its upcoming LTE network and detailed plans about managing spectrum to best serve the needs of more intensive data networks.

“Our 4G network will be compatible with a broader range of devices, including the iPhone” Ray said. Now, this is a clear reference to a 4G iPhone, unless Ray considers the current HSPA+ compliant iPhone as 4G, something Apple has never done. It seems though that T-Mobile's CTO is referring to the roll-out of HSPA+ 3G and 4G services in the 1900MHz range, which the iPhone is compliant with. This is a huge $4 billion investment by the fourth-largest US mobile operator.

The big problem with the iPhone on T-Mobile is the awkward AWS bands that the carrier’s 3G runs on. The iPhone currently doesn’t support them and remains limited to slow EDGE data transfers. Theoretically, T-Mobile’s LTE network will deliver up to 72Mbps, but we expect the realities to match those of the current LTE networks. That would mean download speeds of between 5Mbpas and 12Mbps.

Nokia Astound for T-Mobile will not get updated to Belle

Once upon a time, there was a cute Symbian smartphone known as the Nokia C7. It was announced back in September of 2010, and by April of 2011, it was released in the U.S. bearing the Nokia Astound moniker, courtesy of T-Mobile.

Now, as we reported yesterday, the Nokia Belle update started rolling out to select Symbian devices bringing lots of goodies both on the outside and the inside of the platform. And since the Nokia C7 is on the list of smartphones that are getting it, one would assume that the Nokia Astound would be treated to an update too as it is practically the same device. But to the misfortune of all Nokia Astound owners, the Nokia Belle update is not meant to meet the humble Astound, as it was announced via the Twitter feed for Nokia US.

Perhaps it is time to move on and pick a new handset? If you are happy with being a T-Mobile subscriber, the T-Mobile Valentine's Day sale might be a great opportunity to upgrade. All of the carrier's phones, top of the line devices included, will be priced at zero, so feel free to stop by a retail store or visit the T-Mobile web page this Saturday.

When LG introduced the world to the LG Optimus 2X late last year we were suitably impressed by its dual-core processor and multimedia capabilities, but because LG has a history of not importing its high-end devices into the U.S., we held out little hope that it would hop across the pond.
Fortunately, we were proved wrong. At CTIA 2011 in Orlando, Fla., LG introduced the T-Mobile G2x, which is essentially a T-Mobile USA-branded version of the Optimus 2X. Available now for $199.99 with a two-year contract, it boasts an impressive 1GHz Nvidia dual-core processor, great specs, support for T-Mobile's HSPA+ network, and all-around good looks. Sure, it's running Android 2.2 at launch, but LG promises it will be upgradable to version 2.3 in the future and Android fans will appreciate the stock Android interface.
Also notable is that the T-Mobile G2x is T-Mobile's first "G-series" phone not made by HTC (unlike the T-Mobile G1 and T-Mobile G2). This underscores T-Mobile's confidence in LG; we hope the G2x is the first of many excellent LG smartphones to make their marks on the U.S. market.

T-Mobile and Samsung introduce Galaxy S Blaze 4G

T-Mobile and Samsung just unveiled the Galaxy S Blaze 4G with a dual-core Snapdragon S3 processor, clocked at 1.5 GHz, Super AMOLED first generation display and HSPA+ 42 Mbps downlink speeds.

Known specs are pretty scarce at the moment but it appears that the Blaze 4G will be basically a Galaxy S with an upgraded processor and 4G speeds.

Availability is expected to start later this year and prices aren't disclosed so far.
