Vertu Constellation Quest Ferrari: A Ferrari 458 Italia-Inspired Smartphone

Vertu, a manufacturer of luxury cellular phones, has recently announced its newest product, the Ferrari 458 Italia-inspired smartphone. The said phone is called the Constellation Quest Ferrari.
Previously, this company has also released similar luxury car-inspired models such as the Ascent Ferrari GT and the Ascent Ferrari 60.

To give an authentic feel to the smartphone, the Vertu Constellation Quest Ferrari has a titanium battery cover on which appears the popular symbol of Cavallino Rempante in stainless steel. The Ferrari logo likewise appears on the front.

The phone also has handmade Ferrari Calf leather integrated with the design. The phone has been crafted in the very workshop where the interior parts of the inspiration car, the Ferrari GT, are made. Likewise, the phone is encased in a special leather slip covering which not only serves as a protection for the device, but also echoes the design of the iconic vehicle.

Beyond the design, the Constellation Quest Ferrari also carries an analog clock that is inspired by Rev Counter. True Ferrari enthusiasts will also appreciate the stream of updates from Ferrari, including information on events as well as other significant announcements.

Windows Phone 8 Details Leaked

It would appear that some details have been leaked on the next generation of Microsoft’s mobile platform, Windows Phone 8, the platform is apparently codenamed Apollo, something we have heard before, and it will be released after the Windows Phone Tango update.

The details were revealed in a video from Microsoft’s Windows Phone manager Joe Belifoire, and the video was intended for Microsoft’s partners at Nokia, although they guys from Pocket Now seem to have got access to the video.

According to the report, Windows Phone 8 will support multi-core processors, a total of four new screen resolutions and the addition of removable SD card storage. Windows Phone 8 will also offer support for Near Field Communications (NFC), and it will come with some sort of contact less payment system which Microsoft calls the ‘Wallet experience’. It looks like the individual mobile carriers will be able to control Microsoft’s NFC payment system,. by a secure element on the devices actual SIM card or by the build in hardware of the device.

Microsoft also intends to have Windows Phone 8 fully integrated with their next generation PC operating system, Windows 8, and developers will apparently be able to use the same code that is used in Windows 8 for Windows Phone 8, with heavy overlapping in security, multimedia, networking stacks and more.

So this would mean that Microsoft intends to release Windows Phone 8 at the same time as Windows 8, and as it is expected before the end of the year we suspect we will see Windows Phone 8 before the end of 2012 as well.

Dailymotion Video Stream app now available for iOS, Android

Some of you might be familiar with Dailymotion, which is the largest independent video streaming platform in the world with 114 million unique eyeballs monthly. Getting rid of its old web launcher, Dailymotion has replaced it with a new iOS and Android app that the company calls a "breakthrough" in customization, search, and in playing video. The app opens up a gateway to more than 20 million videos in 17 different categories.

The app also offers a Customizable Dashboard that lets you arrange videos by groups and gives you access to the site's top channels, topics, content providers and single videos. Universal Search lets you seek videos by users, groups, playlists and videos to return more accurate results. Finally, the Video Player allows you to watch videos in either landscape or portrait mode, and skip through videos. While you are watching a clip, you can read comments and information on the video. And of course, you can share what you've been watching with your friends on Twitter, Facebook and email.

Roland Hamilton, managing director of Dailymotion says that he is confident that they have created an app that gives quick access to Dailymotion's video library and also offers customization that makes the app belong to each individual user. The app is available for free from the App Store and the Android Market.

BBX smartphones may have already been delayed

If RIM truly believes that the BBX operating system derived from the QNX OS found on the PlayBook tablet is going to save their smartphones then the thought that their next-gen devices may have already been delayed can’t be good.

According to a fellow by the name of Jeff Kvaal, a Barclays Capital Analyst, RIM may have to face delays on their BBX-powered devices due to the usual carrier certification processes. It is believed that RIM was looking to launch their next-generation of BlackBerry smartphones sometime in early 2012. It was just recently that renders surfaced of the BlackBerry Colt that may be one of the first devices to feature the BBX OS.

Kvaal believes that the best RIM can hope for is a late Q1 release but says a mid-year release is much more likely. The carrier certification processes that may have caused RIM to delay the hardware can actually take up to 6 months. It is not known when RIM started the certification processes but it is also possible that they haven’t yet, although the latter is unlikely.

The BBX operating system could do some wonders for RIM’s fading image. The BlackBerry outages that happened a few weeks ago have caused many people to abandon ship. The first device to feature this operating system, the BlackBerry PlayBook, was a very good device although sales will suggest otherwise. If the BBX devices are really delayed to mid-year 2012 can RIM survive given the growth of Android, iOS and even Windows Phone? We’ll just have to wait and see what BBX brings to the smartphone table.

Newest BlackBerry OS Will Run Android Apps:

Mango update rolling out to all Windows Phone devices

If you are one of the Windows Phone faithful out there and wondering whether your smartphone will ever see the new Mango update, you just might like to know that all current Windows Phone handsets will be seeing the Mango update hit no matter which mobile carrier you are with.
Microsoft is “delivering Mango to 100 percent of eligible phones around the world, regardless of carrier.”

Apparently as of the 26th Microsoft pushed out the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango update to the Telefonica LG Optimus 7 handset, and are scheduling the Mango update for the Deutsche Telekom Samsung Omnia 7.

Basically Microsoft will push out the Mango update to everything “that is not listed as “scheduling” or “testing” on Where’s My Update?”

Furthermore apparently some Windows Phone handsets will see another firmware update that are specific to that particular device that will improve on performance, activate new extra features, and delivers some bug fixes, although this firmware update will depend on country, carrier and device model.

Samsung to deliver flexi-display phones and tablets in 2012

Looks like old Samsung will be making it somewhat difficult for Apple to pull the look and feel card on their devices come next year, as Samsung has now reiterated that their flexible display toting smartphones will hit the mobile arena next year.
the flexible display smartphones a twistable tablet will also follow along with other devices.

During Samsungs financial call, Robert Yi, a Sammy spokesperson said, “The flexible display, we are looking to introduce sometime in 2012, hopefully the earlier part,” and that “The application probably will start from the handset side.”

Apparently at this point it is somewhat unclear what format the flexible display smartphones will appear in, but the Slash Gear guys speculate that the clamshell form factor is a likely candidate as this would allow Samsung to fit a larger display into a small form factor.

Last month we reported on a device called the Samsung Galaxy Skin, a smartphone that uses a material called “graphene” for the AMOLED display, so perhaps the Samsung Galaxy Skin will be the first flexible display smartphone coming from the Sammy camp sometime next year.

One thing is for sure, when Samsung delivers these new devices with a flexible display and presumably Android, Apple will have to go some way to make their next generation iPhone as attractive a prospect to the mobile space, otherwise they may see some of the iOS faithful actually turn from iOS to Android.

Ubuntu Linux coming to smartphones and tablets

If Apple thinks it has enough to worry about fighting rival mobile operating system Android, it appears that another rival is about to step into the mobile space, Ubuntu, the Linux based OS, which is yet another open source operating system that is heading for tablets and smartphones at some point in the future. The founder of Canonical, the firm behind Ubuntu, Mark Shuttleworth will announce at the Ubuntu Developer Summit that the operating system will be coming to both smartphones and tablets along with Smart TVs.
Apparently the company is aiming to rival the Android platform and apparently believes that the “conflict of interest from Google’s purchase of Motorola” has made many Android partners look for an alternative.
So there you go, it would appear that Ubuntu is setting itself up to challenge Android in the mobile space, but whether Ubuntu can make that happen and become just as popular as Android remains to be seen. Along with Android though obviously Ubuntu will be taking on iOS products, something I would figure Apple wont simply sit back and let happen without putting up a battle.

RIM To Face Class Action Lawsuit After BlackBerry Outage

More bad news for RIM this morning, as BlackBerry users are filing a class action lawsuit against the company after the recent BlackBerry outage, which left BlackBerry users around the world unable to access BBM and other BlackBerry services for almost four days.

The lawsuit has officially been filed in the Quebec Superior Court by the Consumer Law Group, on behalf of BlackBerry users who pay for a monthly data plan that were unable to access their email during the outage. RIM’s CEO recently apologised for the outage and RIM also offered free apps to all BlackBerry users, obviously BlackBery owners feel that RIM hasn’t done enough after the outage and have decided to take the company to court.
