Sony Xperia Neo L Android 4.0 Smartphone Announced

Sony has announced another new Android smartphone, the Sony Xperia Neo L, which is Sony’s first Android device that will come with Android 4.0 ICS out of the box. The device will launch in China, and it features a single core 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM, plus a 4 inch multi-touch display with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels.

Other specifications on the Sony Xperia Neo L, include 1GB of built in storage plus a microSD card slot that can take up to 32GB cards. It comes with two cameras, up front there is a VGA camera for video chat, on the back there is a 5 megapixel camera which can record HD video in 720p. It looks like the Xperia Neo L will only be available in China, there are no details on when it will go on sale and also no details on pricing.

Sony Xperia S Starts Shipping Globally

Wake-up Sony fans, if the Xperia S caught your attention when it was first unveiled at CES earlier this year, you will be pleased to learn that according to Sony, the Android powered smartphone is now shipping globally which means that it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing it available on the shelves.

For those unfamiliar, the Xperia S is the first phone to be branded under the “Sony” moniker after the company bought out Ericsson in their Sony Ericsson partnership. The device features a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a 4.3” HD 1280×720 display, a 12MP rear-facing camera capable of 1080p Full HD video capture, a 720p HD 1.3MP front-facing camera, DLNA, NFC, HDMI and will come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board.

The good news is that Sony has promised that the Xperia S will be seeing an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in the future, but at the moment no specific dates have been mentioned. No word on pricing just yet, but we’re guessing that the Xperia S will be priced differently depending on which country it is launched in.

Sony Xperia S gets Unboxed

The time draws ever nearer to the launch of the first Sony branded phone, the Xperia S. In Europe we expect to see it both on and off contract for sale by mid-March. But what about the rest of the world? Well, the guys over at SoyaCincau in Malaysia have got their hands on a review unit of the white version of the Xperia S. Like Europe, Malaysia are expecting the release of the device in March, albeit without any indication of when in March as yet.

They've put together an unboxing video for everyone to see. OK, so unboxings aren't the most interesting things to watch. But the SoyaCincau guys have put together a two-part, detailed look at the retail version of the device. All that remains now is to actually get the Xperia S into hands. It is a feast of specs, it has the looks, and that screen. Well, that screen looks amazing.

Sony Xperia S Now Available From Three UK

Three is the first carrier to offer the shiny new Sony Xperia S in the UK. The sexy device is available both to Pay as you go and Pay monthly users, with contract signing being required for the latter group.

Don’t like long customer agreements? You’ll have to pour out 369.99 GBP (about $580) and then grab the tariff that works best for you with any operator you like. Three suggest two options: All in one 15, which costs 15 GBP and offers 300 any-network minutes, 3,000 texts and unlimited data for the first 30 days; and All in One 25, that gives you 500 minutes, 3,000 texts and the same all-you-can-eat data for one month.

If you, however, want to get the phone free of charge, you’ll have to commit on a two-year contract costing at least 30 GBP a month. Even better (Three thinks so), go for the 36 GBP/month tariff with unlimited data.

Sony Ericsson "Kumquat" will launch as the Sony Xperia U

We just recently heard about the Sony Ericsson Kumquat, and mercifully it’s being reported that the midrange Android handset will ship with a different name. Of course the majority of phones ship with a name that is different from their code name, but few code names are as ungainly as “kumquat”.

The phone will apparently ship after Sony officially buries the “Ericsson” part of their branding; this is a move that was expected after Sony bought out Ericsson’s half of the joint venture. As a result the S-E Kumquat will come to market as the Sony Xperia U. The name still conjures up images of a college that specializes in mobile technology, but at least it’s consistent with the naming convention of the rest of the Xperia line.

The phone is expected to have a 3.5” 480x854 pixel screen, a “mid-range” 1GHz dual-core CPU, and a 5MP rear camera. The design aesthetic seems to match the larger Xperia S. While the Xperia U won’t pack quite as much under the hood as the Xperia S, the size may appeal more to people who want an iPhone-sized Android device.

Sony Xperia S Fast Charging Feature Detailed

We recently heard that Sony’s latest Android smartphone, the Sony Xperia S would come with a fast charging feature, although at the time we didn’t have any information on how this would work. We now have some details on how the fast charge feature on the new Sony Xperia S will work, you will be able to plug your device in for 10 minutes and this will give you one hour of talk time on the Xperia S.

The Sony Xperia S will be able to charge your phone to 80 percent power in just 30 minutes, which sounds pretty impressive, after the 80 percent power is reached, the rate at which the device charges slows down. When the battery reaches 80 percent, the rapid charging is switched to standard charging, this is done so that the life of the battery is preserved and it charges as the slower rate until it reaches 100 percent.

An 80 percent charge in just 30 minutes does sound impressive, it will be interesting to see how the rapid charging works on the device and also what the battery is like in day to day usage.

Xperia S to feature a fast-charge battery and anti-stain coating

The first Xperia to have stripped itself of the Ericsson brand, the upcoming Sony Xperia S, is rumored to feature a sunlight-activated coating which should help repel dirt and other stain-forming materials, as well as a quick-charge battery.

Dirt and chocolate stains on the cover are said to come off easily after the UV coating is exposed to sunlight for several seconds, and the battery charge times are expected to be reduced by half when compared to previous Xperia models. A ten minute charge should provide an hours worth of standby.

We first got a look at the Xperia S a few weeks ago at CES, and were really impressed with its BRAVIA-powered display image quality.

Expect the Sony Xperia S this March for around €462.

Sony Xperia S repels dirt and recharges fast

The Sony Xperia S captured a lot of attention and hearts at the CES 2012 in Las Vegas. And with the 12MP camera on back and the 1.3MP camera upfront, the unit has your photography needs covered. You want 1080p HD video capture? You got it! The 4.3 inch 720p screen has a nice 342ppi for crisp images. Under the hood is a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8260 processor, and 1GB of RAM is aboard. Android 2.3 is pre-installed.

What wasn't listed with the specs is the fact that Sony told Swiss web site PocketPC.ch that thanks to the phone's "UV-active nano-coating," the Sony Xperia S repels dirt and also protects the device from the everyday wear and tear that a smartphone faces. Another feature on the Sony Xperia S is the improved lithium-polymer technology that allows the device to charge in half the time of a regular battery. Just 10 minutes of charging time will get the Xperia S up and running for 1 hour.

The Sony Xperia S will be launched overseas in the second week of March with its U.S. cousin, the Sony Xperia Ion, rolling out in the second quarter.
