New thriller "7500" to feature cameos by the BlackBerry PlayBook and BlackBerry Torch 9860

Something scary is aboard Flight 7500 from LA to Tokyo. And it is not either the BlackBerry PlayBook or the BlackBerry Torch 9860, although both devices are on the flight. Both devices are making cameos in the film which is about a supernatural force that takes over a ten hour flight. One passenger reaches EOL and others follow. By the way, in case you were wondering why we picked the Torch 9860 over the identical on the outside Torch 9850, with the flight traveling to Tokyo, it is assumed that the owner of the device has the GSM variant of the phone.

Check out the trailer for "7500" below. The BlackBerry devices debut at 42 seconds into the video. The movie itself is set to premiere (that's the term those high-fallutin' movie guys use instead of launch) on August 31st.

Amazon might launch a 9-inch Kindle Fire tablet in mid-2012, new 7-inch model coming too

What is more interesting is that Bartley is expecting “new 7- and 9-inch models” of the Amazon Kindle Fire to launch in “mid-2012”. As in a successor to the existing 7-inch slate and a bigger counterpart with a 9-inch display.

Actually, this isn't the first time when we hear rumors regarding a larger Kindle Fire. Before the launch of the 7-inch slate, a 10.1-inch model was said to be on its way as well, but perhaps Amazon decided to stay out of that end of the market for the time being. A 8.9-inch Kindle Fire has also been speculated about more than once, with sources claiming that orders for its components have already been placed.

Of course, we can only guess how the alleged 9-inch Kindle Fire will be marketed and what kind of hardware it will boast, if it ever sees the light of day, that is. On the other hand, we probably won't be wrong if we say that it will try to steal some of the upcoming iPad 3's cool. As far as the supposed 7-inch Kindle Fire successor is concerned, a few hardware and software tweaks combined with a tempting price tag might make a recipe for success.

HTC Titan II landing March 18th

We’re sure you’re probably still trying to get over the possibility of the Nokia Lumia 900 launching with AT&T for a mere $99.99, but the news regarding AT&T isn’t over just yet. And in fact, it appears we’re hearing some additional juicy news that should no doubt get many AT&T customers extremely excited in the coming months.

This time around, it’s in regards to that other 4G LTE Windows Phone – you know, the HTC Titan II that made its debut during CES. According to a leaked Q1 2012 roadmap obtained by BGR, it mentions that AT&T is tentatively planning to launch the HTC Titan II on March 18th for $199.99 with a 2-year agreement. Of course, at that price point, people will look at the possible $100 price attached to the Nokia Lumia 900, but still, it has some advantages – like having a wickedly larger display.

Meanwhile, it’s also being reported that the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket HD, Samsung Exhilarate, and the gorgeous Sony Xperia ion will all be coming out sometime at the end of Q1 – though, exact dates and pricing weren’t mentioned. Interestingly, we’re also being introduced to a new tablet from Sony that AT&T will be planning to launch in the future, however, it’s looking to be an HSPA+ enabled tablet as opposed to offering 4G LTE. Dubbed as the Crystal, the report indicates that AT&T will have it priced at $409.99, but it’s unknown if that is its on-contract or outright pricing – albeit, we’d figure it to be the former.

Well,It seems that AT&T has many things in store for Q1, which should no doubt keep AT&T customers very content. Knowing that the HTC Titan II will be sporting a $200.

JingXing S7100: An Android Tablet For Gaming

It looks like the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY isn’t going to be the dedicated Android gaming device on the block, a company named JingXing has decided to step into that niche with a device of its own: the JingXing S7100. However, the S7100 isn’t a phone and takes the form factor of tablet instead, and features gamepad controls on the sides of the display.

While the specs of the device weren’t revealed, it will be running on Android (as evident by the dedicated Android buttons on the bottom of the device and the Android logo on the back), and will feature a rear camera and a front facing camera. The tablet’s gamepad gives users a 4-way D-pad, 4 regular buttons (circle, triangle, square, x), as well as start and select. No sign of shoulder buttons, so I guess you’ll need to use onscreen controls for those.
Don’t expect to have a dedicated app store like the Xperia PLAY/PlayStation Vita – but you can be pretty sure that ROM emulators are going to be this tablet’s best friends.

Australian Court orders one week extension of ban on Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1

An Australian Court ruling lifted the ban on sales of the flagship Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 in that country. On December 9th, the court will decide whether or not Apple can appeal that ruling. In the meantime, Australian High Court Justice Dyson Heydon issued an order on Thursday, extending the ban on the tablet until the court meets on the 9th of the month. With the reversal, Samsung planned on offering the Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 tablet in Sydney starting at 4pm local time on Friday. The company was then going to import the tablet to deliver to buyers while ramping up a marketing campaign. With the extension, that is put off for at least a week as Samsung bumps up against a self-imposed deadline. The company has said that if it can't sell the GALAXY Tab 10.1 in time for the holiday shopping season, it would cancel its release in the country.

Tuesday's reversal essentially ended a court-ordered ban on the sale of the Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 that started on October 12th when the court ruled in favor of Apple. In that case, Apple sued Samsung claiming that the latter was stealing the design of the Apple iPhone and Apple iPad in producing its own models. Apple started things off with the original suit back in April and since then, the Korean based tech company has countersued claiming that Apple infringed on Samsung's FRAND patents, an exercise that has not been successful to date.

If Apple successfully appeals the reversal, Samsung might consider what it did to get around a ban of the tablet in Germany. Changing the design of the GALAXY Tab 10.1, Samsung moved the metal trim closer to the front of the device and renamed the product the Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1N. By making these changes, Samsung was allowed to sell the revised tablet in Germany since the latter manufacturer successfully showed the court that the new revision eliminates the resemblance in design between the Samsung and Apple tablets.

ViewSonic ViewPad 7e Review

Known for being a prominent monitor manufacturer, we’ve already seen ViewSonic dabbling in the tablet market for the last year now with devices like the Android powered ViewPad 7 and ViewPad 10. Coming around for a second at bat with a 7” offering, they’re hoping to reel in some people with their affordably priced ViewSonic ViewPad 7e model.

Design:
Let’s be honest here, our first impression about the ViewSonic ViewPad 7e is that it looks like some sort of digital picture frame with its very cheap plastic casing – even worse, it’s very bland looking and extremely heavy. Generally, 7-inch tablets are relatively easy to hold with one hand, but with this one, its wide frame and heavy weight makes it difficult to hold with one hand.

Bringing us back to memories of long ago, the ViewPad 7e features a 7” 800x600 px. resistive touchscreen – yes folks, you heard that right, it utilizes a RESISTIVE touchscreen! As much as we’re appalled by it, we’re further annoyed by the fact that its quality is abysmally poor – to the point unusable at times. Not only is it immensely pixilated, but its very weak brightness output and terrible viewing angles washes out the display. For comparison, both the Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet feature 1024x600 pixels resolution capacitive screens with much better image qualtiy.
