Customize Every Aspect Of Your iPhone Now With Springtomize 2 For iOS 5

A new tweak called Springtomize has been released which will allow users to customize every aspect of their iPhone. This new app has so many great settings all packed into one tiny application. Here’s what the BigBoss has to say about Springtomize:

Springtomize allows you to customize your SpringBoard, to make it look and feel how you want. It provides plenty of options to modify even the littlest aspect of your device. Springtomize is really the only tweak you need to customize your device, and it provides all the settings you may need in a single, convenient interface. In order to use Springtomize you will need to have a jailbroken iPhone running iOS 5. It will cost you $2.99 for this app and it only takes up 495kb on your iPhone. The price is great considering the amount of options you get. Here’s a few of the options that we found really great.

Animations:
With animations there are a couple of different options including settings for the color, sound, duration and direction of each animation when switching between screens on your iPhone.

Capabilities:
The capabilities panel is great and you can use this to deactivate some of the iPhone feature that you might not use or find useful. You can deactivate such things as Voice Control or Multitasking.

Lockscreen:
There are lots of options in this panel and you can enable or disable default settings on your lockscreen such as camera or cover art. You can even change the standard slide to unlock text from here.

There are lots more options in this app including icons, folders, app switcher, status bar, pages and themes. Springtomize 2 can be downloaded from the Big Boss repo and as far as we’re concerned it really is a great app with so much to offer. Remember in order to be able to use this app you will need to have a jailbroken device and if you are looking to jailbreak iOS 5 you can get a tethered jailbreak using Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze.

Cluzee is the Siri for non iOS devices

Siri has become one of the most well known features on the new Apple iPhone 4S. Siri's voice has become so well known that comics have been able to get laughs from imitating the application. Android owners have scoured the Android Market, looking for an app that can duplicate Siri's functionality and now, it appears that Cluzee is the answer.

Ask Cluzee when your next appointment is and the app will tell you when it is, where it is and the time of the appointment. It will also give you what time you need to leave in order to make the appointment and which streets and highways you need to take. Cluzee can also send out email or text messages to those people on your contact list that are involved in the appointment.

While Siri can handle more commands now than Cluzee can at this point, there is nothing that stops future updates from taking the app past Siri. And while the latter is basically locked into the iOS platform, Cluzee will be available on all platforms thanks to HTML5.

With all of the battles that go on between Apple users and Android users, we can just imagine a battle brewing in the future between Siri and Cluzee over which personal assistant is better. Cluzee will have to improve however, as early reports say that the program is quite buggy.

Nielsen Q3 numbers are out: Android and iOS (gasp!) dominate U.S. smartphone market

It’s that time of the year again...no, not the holidays, it's time for Nielsen's Q3 estimates of current smartphone market share in the U.S! For those of you who confuse these results with sales numbers, remember that this is the installed user base in the U.S., not sales of new phones during the quarter. And now without further ado (drum roll please) the numbers are...

...looking pretty rosy for Google and Apple.

Is anyone surprised?

Here's the nitty-gritty: Nielsen finds that 44% of U.S. cell phone owners have a smartphone (in the last 3 months 56% of new phone sales have been smartphones, so it won’t be long before half of all mobile phones are of the “smart” variety in the States). When looking at smartphones owners, 42.8% of them have Android handsets, while 28.3% are iPhones.

That means that the "big two" mobile OSes control 71% of the market. Nielsen points out that this dominance is even larger when you look at app downloads for the last month, of which 83% come from one of those two platforms. BlackBerry comes in third, with 17.8% market share. Relative to Q2 numbers, Android has gained 2% market share, Blackberry has shed 1.2%, and iOS is holding even. Of course all of those iPhone 4S sales numbers won't show up until the Q4 results are in.

Windows Phone has a long way to go to become the “third ecosystem” that Microsoft and Nokia envision. 6.1% of smartphones have some flavor of Windows on them, which is down from Q2, when 7% of all smartphones were packing Windows. Of course these numbers includes Windows Mobile, so what we're seeing here is users leaving Windows Mobile for other platforms faster than WP7 is growing.

iOS Panorama Mode Can Be Activated Without Jailbreaking

The other day we heard about a hidden feature that had been found in Apple’s iOS 5, a panorama mode for the iPhone’s camera, and now it would appear that the feature can be activated without jailbreaking your device.

Earlier today we heard about another hidden feature in iOS, a new autocorrect keyboard bar, and it turns out that this feature can also be activated in iOS 5 without having to jailbreak your device. iOS and Android are rapidly taking over the portable gaming market

Since the inception of mobile gaming, Nintendo has been a dominant player in the market with multiple incarnations of its Gameboy and DS series. Late-arriver, Sony, also managed to garner success with the introduction of its PlayStation Portable, or PSP. It seemed unlikely that another player could even hope to rival these two giants, let alone significantly reduce their market share.

iOS and Android have done just that. Traditionally portable gaming software revenue was fueled by physical game purchases, often in the form of a cartridge or a UMD, for around $40 a piece. Now, that revenue stream is also being powered by digital downloads. Both Android and iOS offer a significant amount of high-quality, premium games for $0.99 as well as games which are distributed using the ‘freemium’ model, which is when a game is free to download but offers in-app upgrades and purchases for additional content.

Flurry, a mobile applications analytics company, released a report today that shows the distribution of U.S. portable game software revenue over the last three years. Even though iOS and Android games typically cost much less from a price per unit standpoint, they have managed to expand from comprising 19% of the revenue in 2009 to a whopping 58% in 2011. Conversely, Sony and Nintendo have dropped from 11% and 70% in 2009 to 6% and 36% in 2011, respectively.

This dramatic shift in revenue source has caused some to question whether or not Sony and Nintendo can remain viable in this space at all. Despite including a 3DS store with its latest portable system for digital downloads, poor sales caused the manufacturer to slash the retail price of the 3DS and now Nintendo is anticipating posting their first fiscal year loss in over 30 years. The PlayStation Vita, which is set to be released in the U.S. on February 22, 2012, will feature a reduced rate, digital download option for all of its retail games.

iOS vs. Android:

Hidden Panorama Mode Discovered In iOS Camera

It looks like Apple may have some plans to upgrade the camera in iOS 5 in the future, as a new feature has been discovered hidden inside the iOS SDK, Panorama Mode, which was discovered by Conradev.

Conradev was able to activate the Panorama mode by changing a key value in the iOS 5 SDK, and the Panorama Mode then worked letting you take panoramic photos with your iOS devices camera. There are no details as yet when Apple will officially release an update which will enable the Panorama Mode.
