White Samsung Galaxy SII Lands On T-Mobile December 14th

We heard a while back that the white Samsung Galaxy S II would be headed to US mobile carrier T-Mobile, and now T-Mobile has confirmed that the device will be available on their network from the 14th of December 2011.

T-Mobile haven’t released any pricing about the white version, although the standard version retails for $229 when you sign up to a new 24 month contract, and we suspect it will be priced the same.

The Galaxy S II on T-Mobile features a 4.52 inch WVGA Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen display, there is also Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread and it features a dual core 1.5GHz processor. Other specifications include an 8 megapixel camera which can record HD video in 1080p and it also features a front facing 1.3 megapixel camera for video chat.

Samsung opens up S Pen SDK to devs

Strong sales of the Samsung Galaxy S II have fueled Samsung’s phone division success and as the demand persists the Korean company has revised its 2011 sales forecast upwards. Apart from the Galaxy S II, the company is also basing its more optimistic estimate on expectations for sales of 2 million units of the Samsung Galaxy Note, the 5.3-inch powerhouse which sits between a phone and a tablet.

Now, it’s definitely not a device for the mass user, but creatives (and we don’t mean baristas) can make great use of the added space. And now, Samsung has released the SDK for its S Pen stylus for the Galaxy Note. This opens the door for Android developers to add support for the S Pen in their applications. The SDK weighs 2.43MB and comes with four major features:

- CanvasView : basic background for drawing,

- Pen Setting Popup : a pop-up panel for adjusting the width, opacity and line color,

- Eraser Setting Popup : Panel for adjusting width for eraser,

- Undo/Redo : Enable undo/redo previous draw.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 pays a visit to the FCC

Just a couple months after the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 vanished from their booth at IFA due to an injunction filed against them it has resurfaced for a return trip to the FCC, this time packing 3G bands as well as support for HSPA+…

The Galaxy Tab 7.7 is a tablet for the individuals that will find the Galaxy Tab 7.0 plus to be too small while the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is too large. Samsung seems interested in having a tablet for a whole variety of hand sizes. The display itself is of the Super AMOLED Plus type which should be a joy to gaze at. Powering the device behind the scenes is a dual-core 1.4GHz processor as well has 1GB of RAM. Of course, this is an Android 3.2 Honeycomb tablet that also has Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface overlaying it.

Samsung is still mum on this device’s availability in the US. It was believed that it wouldn’t see the light of date here in states, but Samsung has yet to make an official decision. With all of the other tablet offerings by Samsung in the US already it may be hard for the Galaxy Tab 7.7 to take off. Galaxy Nexus To Be Nexus Prime On Verizon?

Nexus Prime was the name that was rumored for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, before the device was officially announced, and now it would appear that when the Samsung Galaxy Nexus lands on Verizon, it may be called the Nexus Prime.

According to the guys over at Sammy Hub, who have obtained a photo of some Best Buy marketing material, which you can see below, the name will be used by Verizon to identify it from the international model of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. We still don’t have any more information on an official release date of the Galaxy Nexus or Nexus Prime for Verizon Wireless, the last rumored date we heard was the 8th of December.

Samsung Illusion Hits Verizon Wireless November 23rd

The Samsung Illusion was recently announced, and now it would appear that the device will be available from Verizon wireless from tomorrow, the 23rd of November at Verizon online, but it looks like it won’t actually launch in Verizon stores until the 12th of January.

As a reminder, the Samsung Illusion comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and features a 3.5 inch touchscreen display with a 320 x 480 pixel resolution, plus 512MB of RAM and a single core 1GHz processor. There Illusion also features a 3 megapixel camera, plus 2GB of built in storage and a microSD card slot with a 2GB card pre-installed, and whilst no pricing has been announced it is expected to retail for about $100.

Samsung Galaxy S III To Feature Quad Core Exynos 4412 Processor?

The Samsung Galaxy S II have been a huge success for Samsung, and we have already heard some rumors about the new Samsung Galaxy S III, which we have previously heard may come with a dual core processor. Now it would appear that the new Samsung Galaxy S III will use the new Samsung Exynos 4412 quad core processor, which will apparently have a clock speed of up to 1.5GHz.

This would make sense for Samsung to use a quad core processor in the next generation galaxy S smartphone, as we have already heard some rumors of quad core handsets from the likes of HTC using the new NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor. We have also heard that the Galaxy S III will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, 1GB of RAM and a 4.6 inch Super AMOLED Plus HD display witth a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, it is also rumored to feature a 12 megapixel camera, and offer support for NFC and LTE. Considering that Samsung produced the Galaxy Nexus for Google, we suspect that their own flagship smartphone will come with higher specifications than the Nexus, and these rumored specifications sound about right.

Samsung Galaxy S 3 III - Leaks and hopes:

French court to rule on Samsung’s request to ban the iPhone 4S on December 8th

Samsung has asked for injunctions against the new iPhone 4S in several European countries, and they will get an answer fairly soon in at least one of them. A French courtroom has set a date of December 8th to rule on the request. This will not be a ruling on the validity of Samsung’s patent lawsuit, just whether there are sufficient grounds to award Samsung an injunction against Apple for the duration of the legal proceedings.

An injunction would prevent Apple from selling phone until the court could decide on the validity of Samsung’s claims, at which time either Apple would be cleared, or a permanent ban would be placed. A permanent ban could be overcome by either modification of the product to avoid use of the offending patents, or by securing a license agreement with Samsung for the patents in question.

Samsung is also facing several lawsuits by Apple, and presumably wants to be able to negotiate a cross-licensing agreement that would produce a truce in their legal affairs. A preliminary injunction can provide extra leverage in such negotiations, although a company that thinks it can win or avoid the patents may take the initial sales hit. Samsung recently modified its Galaxy Tab 10.1 to comply with a ruling by a German court.

Apple would not be able to easily modify the iPhone 4S, as the patents in question are necessary for 3G connectivity. For this reason, Apple has been invoking a FRAND defense against Samsung; FRAND laws require that companies with patents that enable industry standards must make their patents available to a company at a reasonable cost.

According to patent law observer Florian Mueller the French court appears sympathetic to Apple’s FRAND claims, so he believes Apple has a better than even chance of avoiding an injunction in France.

Samsung Epic 4G finally getting its taste of Gingerbread

The Samsung Epic 4G, a popular variation of the original Samsung Galaxy S, is finally getting its serving of Android Gingerbread as Sprint has posted the update on the smartphone’s software update site.

The Samsung Epic 4G was slated to become an EOL (end of life) device at the end of October. It has already had a shelf life of 15 months which is a long time nowadays. While the new update won’t add any more cores to the processor or add the term Plus to the end of its Super AMOLED display, it will most certainly help make the Epic 4G feel new again in a time when a new flagship Android device is seemingly announced once a week.

The Epic 4G was and still is a solid device. Its 4-inch display is still a beauty to behold and its snappy 1GHz Hummingbird processor is a delight. It was only the second device on Sprint to run on the 4G WiMax network, launching just two months after the HTC EVO 4G. It is also the only variant of the Samsung Galaxy S to have a full sliding QWERTY keyboard, a feature that attracted many. The software update will bring some nice functionality to what is still a very good smartphone. Here is the list of improvements you can expect on your Epic 4G, according to Sprint:

Samsung are expected to update the Samsung Galaxy S II along with their other Android devices to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but now it looks like the guys from the XDA developers have put together a ROM for the Samsung Galaxy S II.

But, Samsung hasn’t as yet confirmed when they will officially release Android 4.0 ICe Cream Sandwich for the Galaxy S II.

Samsung Galaxy Note Goes On Sale In The UK

Probably one one the most anticipated Android devices from Samsung, apart from the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus, is the Samsung Galaxy note which has gone on sale in the UK today, have a look at our Samsung Galaxy note hands on.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2:

Samsung wants Apple's Jonathan Ive to testify in court, and the iPhone 4S source code, too

Apple's chief product designer Jonathan Ive and others from his team have until December 1 to testify about Cupertino's claims that Samsung is infringing on its design patents with its Android phones and tablets. The deadline was November 1, but Samsung filed to extend it, since the designers would have been available after that date. From Samsung's motion:

"Mr. Satzger is a former Apple employee represented by separate counsel. He is unable to sit for deposition before November 1 because, during the month of October, his lawyer has a full deposition schedule in a separate class action matter.

Mr. Nishibori is unable to sit for deposition before November 1 because he currently is on a voluntary leave of absence from Apple.

Mr. Ive is unable to sit for deposition before November 1 for personal reasons.

Mr. Stringer is unable to sit for deposition before November 1 because of work and scheduling conflicts."

The Californian trial is actually scheduled to begin in the summer next year, and these testimonies will be used by the defense. Oh, if we could be a fly on the wall during Jony Ive's testimony a lot could be learned about the way Apple designs its products, but we are keeping the hope for some court leaks.

Meanwhile, Samsung is demanding to see the source firmware code of the Apple iPhone 4S in Australia, while its own Galaxy Tab 10.1 is still under sales ban there, and waiting for an expedited hearing. The company also wants to be shown the subsidy deals Apple has signed with different Australian carriers.

All these are a part of the counter-lawsuit Samsung launched in Australia against the new iPhone 4S, claiming it infringes on its patents for the 3G standard. The court will have to determine if these patents have been offered to Apple to license under the reasonable FRAND terms, while Samsung says these terms are not applicable to Australia.

Samsung Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note are confirmed to receive ICS

Relying on our characteristic ability to act on impulse, especially after Samsung introduced the world to its upcoming Samsung Galaxy Nexus, some recent Samsung Galaxy S II handset owners might have had some other bitter feelings. Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket unveiled: AT&T's take on 4G LTE

AT&T has just set the bar high for its 4G LTE smartphones - it has announced the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket, an LTE-enabled handset with a spacious 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display with a resolution of 480x800 pixels.

The handset runs on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread and under the hood, a 1.5GHz dual-core processors makes it tick. An 8-megapixel rear camera allows capturing video in 1080p, while up front there’s a 2-megapixel snapper. The Galaxy S II Skyrocket features 16B of on-board memory, expandable via a microSD card by up to an additional 32 gigs.

The Galaxy S II Skyrocket release date is set for November 6th while the price will accordingly skyrocket to $249.99 when the phone is purchased with a two-year contract. The carrier has also said that it's expanding its LTE network to Boston, Washington DC, Baltimore and Athens GA, effective November 6th as well.

Hugo Boss Samsung Galaxy Ace Announced

Some of our reader will remember the Samsung Galaxy Ace that we reviewed a while back, now it would appear that Samsung is releasing a special edition of the Samsung Galaxy Ace with clothing designer Hugo Boss.

The Hugo Boss Samsung Galaxy Ace shares the same specifications as the original device, with a 3.5 inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels, a 5 megapixel camera and a microSD card slot. Samsung Galaxy S II HD LTE Lands In South Korea

Samsung recently announced their first HD smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S II HD LTE, which we are hoping will soon be available in the US and Europe, but it will first go on sale in South Korea from tomorrow. The Samsung Galaxy S II HD LTE features a 4.65 HD Super AMOLED Display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, and it features a dual core 1.5GHz processor and will come with Android Gingerbread.

Other specifications on the Samsung Galaxy S II HD LTE include an 8 megapixel camera with an LED flash for photos and video, plus a front facing 2 megapixel camera, an 1850 mAh battery and 16GB of built in storage plus a microSD card slot, plus 802.11 b/g/n WiFi plus Bluetooth 3.0.
We are still waiting on confirmation from Samsung on when the S II HD LTE will be available in the US and Europe, although the device recently appeared at the FCC so lets hope we get an announcement from Samsung some time soon.

Samsung GALAXY Note to launch first in Germany on October 29th

The Samsung GALAXY Note will make its debut in Germany on October 29th, according to the Korean based manufacturer. But this is not too much of a surprise as Samsung earlier this month revealed that the device would hit Germany, France and the UK before this month was out. November would see the model launched in Korea. For those of you Stateside who drool over the Samsung GALAXY Note's Quadrant Benchmark score of 3,624 (Holy shades of the Samsung Galaxy S II, Batman!), we could see the unit touch down in the U.S. next quarter.

We usually don't start rattling off a list of specs with the battery, but the 2,500mAh cell on the Samsung GALAXY Note should certainly be able to keep the device running for some time. Yes, there is the case of keeping the 5.3 inch Super AMOLED HD screen bright, crisp and clear. Resolution is 800 x 1280. A dual-core 1.4GHz processor is under the hood with 1GB of RAM aboard. 32GB of native storage comes on the GALAXY Note and that can be doubled by using a micro SD card up to 32GB. Of course, there are two cameras on the unit. The 8MP shooter on back captures video at 1080p while the 2MP front-facing camera allows you to video chat. Don't forget the S pen stylus, which allows you to take notes all over the screen. Android 2.3 is pre-installed.
