How to Jailbreak iOS 5, iOS 5.0.1 on iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch using Ac1dSn0w

We have some good news for the entire iOS jailbreaking community, a new iOS jailbreak has been released to the general public that has capability to jailbreak the iOS 5.0 as well as the iOS 5.0.1 firmware that runs on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. The name of this new iPhone / iPad jailbreak tool is Ac1dSn0w.

Folks over at the Pwn Dev Team have released the first beta version of Ac1dSn0w which is available for Mac OS X users only. And just like the iPhone Dev Team’s Redsn0w 0.9.9 and iH8sn0w’s Sn0wbreeze jailbreak tool, the new Ac1dSn0w jailbreak tool is compatible for the users of iPhone 4 (GSM and CDMA), iPhone 3GS, iPad 1, and iPod Touch 4G running on iOS 5 and iOS 5.0.1 firmware. In addition to these, you should also be noted that Ac1dSn0w offers tethered jailbreak only. Anyway, you can check the tutorial posted below on how to jailbreak iOS 5 / iOS 5.0.1 using Ac1dSn0w beta 1 jailbreak tool:

Steps to Jailbreak iOS 5 / iOS 5.0.1 iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch using Ac1dSn0w:
Step 1: First, you will need to download Ac1dSn0w jailbreak tool for Mac OS X using this link (link removed due to copyright issues).
Step 2: After downloading, launch the application and then connect your iPad 1, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G into your Mac via USB cable.
Note: You can click on “Show Console” in order to see some device related information. This option will also show you the current status of the jailbreaking procedures. On the other hand, the assistant panel will assist you in putting your iOS device in Pwned DFU / DFU mode.
Step 3: Power OFF your device.
Step 4: Now you have to click on the “Show Assistant” to put your iOS device in DFU mode, just follow the onscreen instructions.
Step 5: Once you have managed to put your iOS device in DFU mode just simply click on the “Jailbreak” button and wait till the application completes the jailbreaking process (the iOS device will reboot once done). That’s it. You can now see Cydia app ion the Springboard of your jailbroken iOS device.

Tethered Boot iOS 5 / iOS 5.0.1 via Ac1dSn0w:
Step 6: To tethered boot, connect your iOS device into your Mac, launch Ac1dSn0w jailbreak tool, and put your iOS device in DFU mode by clicking the “Show Assistant” option.
Step 7: Then hit the “Tethered Boot” in order to boot your iOS device in tethered jailbreak state.

You can check Pwn Dev Team official website to know more about Ac1dSn0w jailbreak tool.

Update:
MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team advised iOS jailbreakers to STAY AWAY from this tool as it contains copyright Apple code.

Unfortunately they achieve this by directly embedding Apple code in their program (15 times!). That’s the kind of copyright infringement we stay away from. Hosting this app can lead to DMCA takedowns, etc. (Anyhow, redsn0w doesn’t need the IPSW for each tethered boot either..it fetches the images from Apple’s servers once and then caches them.).

Untethered Jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 on iPhone 4 / 3GS, iPod Touch 4G / 3G, and iPad 1 Using PwnageTool 4.3 for Mac OS X [Step-By-Step Guide]

The iPhone Dev Team has updated both their Redsn0w (for Windows and Mac OS X) and PwnageTool (exclusive for Mac OS X) to enable iOS jailbreakers to jailbreak the recently released iOS 4.3.1 on iPhone 4 (GSM model), iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G, iPad 1, and AppleTV 2G. Unfortunately, there’s no jailbreak support for iPad 2 at the moment.

Both Redsn0w 0.9.6 RC9 and PwnageTool 4.3 both utilize an exploit discovered by Stefan Esser, a German iPhone hacker and iOS security specialist and the main man behind the antid0te framework, to untethered jailbreak the iOS 4.3.1.

If you are an iPhone unlocker who depend on Ultrasn0w unlock, you have to wait a little as the iPhone Dev Team still working on to fix the Utrasn0w and some bugs between iOS 4.3.1 and the older basebands required for carrier unlock. If you don’t care about unlocking your iPhone form its contracted mobile phone carrier, then it is recommended to use Redsn0w 0.9.6 RC9 as it features a very easy jailbreak method. So if you are an iPhone unlocker, then you can jailbreak your iOS using PwnageTool 4.3 for Mac OS X. You can follow our step-by-step guide posted below to successfully jailbreak your iPhone (as well as other iOS devices) running on iOS 4.3.

Note: Ultrasn0w1.2 Is still broken, but once it got fixed it will be able to unlock iPhone with old baseband version (01.59.00 / 04.26.08 / 05.11.07 / 05.12.01 / 05.13.04 / 06.15.00).

How to Untethered iOS 4.3.1 Jailbreak on iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch Using PwnageTool 4.3

Step 1:
Launch PwnageTool 4.3 and click on “Expert mode” and then select your iOS device:

Step 2:
Browse for iOS 4.3.1 firmware for your iOS device.

Step 3:

Then select “Build” to start creating custom 4.3.1 ipsw / firmware file

Step 4:

PwnageTool 4.3 will now start creating custom .ipsw file for your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPod Touch 4G, or iPod Touch 3G which will be jailbroken.

Step 5:

Now, you have to put your iOS device into DFU mode by following the on-screen instruction:
• Hold Power and Home buttons for 10 seconds
• Now release the Power button but continue holding the Home button for 10 more seconds
• You device should now be in DFU mode

Hold the “Alt/Option” key and click “Restore” at the same time to restore your custom firmware. DO NOT click “Restore” without holding the “Alt/Option” key! A dialog box will pop up and you’ll be able to choose the custom IPSW file you created.

New iPhone App Improves Eyesight

There is a new iPhone app coming out that could actually reduce the amount of time that you need to wear glasses or contact lenses. This new app is called GlassesOff and it is being developed by Ucansi and is expected to be released in the next couple of weeks. The GlassesOff app has been found to improve eyesight in people of 50 to that of a 40 years old and this was after just 40 sessions of using the app. Sounds pretty great doesn’t it? Studies have also shown that this app can help people to read sentences more quickly.

When you purchase this app and use it you will get a grey screen with a white circle and then images at random places on the screen. These images can be blank or have blurred lines or patterns on them and what you have to do is pick out the specific gabor patches that pop up where the white circle is. What happens is that eye muscle gets a workout which helps to keep the eye young and healthy.

If this sounds like something you would like to try out then be warned, it is going to retail at £60 for three months when it hits the app stores. Seems pretty pricey but if it really does do what it says it will work out cheaper than laser eye surgery. It is going to be available in the App Store later this year and if it does well I’m sure we will see some other developers producing similar apps that will be available in the Cydia store.

Untethered Jailbreak For iOS 5 Now Works On iOS 5.0.1

This was tested using a third generation iPod Touch running iOS 5.0 and he wasn’t sure if it would work on the new iOS 5.0.1 as well. He did say however that he would test it on iOS 5.0.1 and report back with his results.

Well the wait is over and we can confirm that after testing the exploit on his iPhone 4 running the latest iOS 5.0.1 firmware, he has confirmed via Twitter that it is working. This ultimately means that you can now update your iOS device to iOS 5.0.1 and still jailbreak it. If you are an iPhone owner who relies on Ultrasn0w for your unlock you are advised against upgrading to preserve your old baseband. Here’s what Pod2g has to say on his twitter account: Got an untethered iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1. Feel free to update.

This is great news for anyone who accidentally updated to iOS 5.0.1 only to find that they were locked out on the new firmware with no way to downgrade to iOS 5.0. It is important to note that so far the exploit has only been confirmed working on A4 based devices and below like the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G and 3G, Apple TV and the first generation iPad. There has been no confirmation as yet as to whether this will work on A5 based devices such as the new iPhone 4S or the iPad 2.

Currently there is only a semi-tethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 and you can choose from either Redsn0w, Ac1dsn0w or Sn0wbreeze. If this new jailbreak works untethered then this really is great news.
