Hipstamatic D-Series App Brings Back Click And Wait To Photography

Today Hipstamatic is launching it new D-Series App, which will bring back a retro style of photography, long forgotten with digital cameras. The new Disposable Series iOS app, or D-Series is a free program that does’t allow you to view your images as you take them. But forces you to wait until a virtual real has been fully used. But thats not all you can also invite others via Facebook to use the virtual roll. Just like a real old school film real, once a person in the group takes a shot the, real image counter clicks down on everyones app in the group.

Once the real is finished a push notification and the completed roll is delivered both to your iPhone camera roll and to the entire group that was using the virtual camera. Creating a virtual gallery in the sequence of the snapped photographs.

Hipstamatic Camera App Review:

Android's market share of app downloads in Q2 reaches 44% surpassing the 31% share of iOS

Android's market share of app downloads in Q2 reaches 44% surpassing the 31% share of iOS
According to ABI Research, the Android Market is busier these days than the App Store. During the second quarter-the latest time period for which data is available-Android devices accounted for 44% of all app downloads surpassing the 31% market share belonging to iOS flavored devices. Research associate Lim Shiyang credits the open source nature of Android for these results, saying that the free nature of the OS draws more users to devices powered by Android and supports the growth of third party and multi-platform application stores. That, in turn, allows Android to capture the top spot for app downloads.

Additionally, ABI points to a slowdown in the growth of Apple iPhone shipments as another reason for Android's leading market share when it comes to installing apps. During this year's second quarter, growth in shipments of the Apple iPhone slowed to 9% from 15% in the year's first quarter while Android growth reached 36% in Q2, up from the 20% improvement it scored in the first quarter. The installed base of Android users leads those using iOS by 2.4 to 1. According to ABI, this will increase to 3 to 1 by 2016.

It isn't all bad news for the gang at Cupertino. Dan Shey, practice director, mobile services for ABI noters that while Android leads in total mobile app downloads, Apple still has the most app downloads per user. Shy points out that, "Apple’s superior monetization policies attracted good developers within its ranks, thus creating a better catalog of apps and customer experience.”

App downloads are expected to total 29 billion for this year compared with 9 billion downloaded in 2010. The main reason for the surge in app downloads according to ABI, is the huge increase in smartphone usage world-wide. For example, the number of smartphone users globally is expected to grow 46% this year.

Android Market soon to offer millions of tunes

Android Market soon to offer millions of tunes
The soon to open Google Music Store might be one of the worst kept secrets in the industry. A couple of weeks ago, the New York Times said that Google's answer to iTunes was close to launching and Andy Rubin mentioned that the opening of the service would be coming shortly at last week's AsiaD conference in Hong Kong.

Another sign that the Google Music Store is close to opening

A huge sign that the Google Music Store is about to open reveals itself when you go to the Google Music landing page at music.google.com. From your phone, you are presented with a link (which currently is not in operation) to the Android Market where you can, "Get songs from your favorite artists in Android Market, including hundreds of free tracks." The link, when it is up and running, is set up to take you to https://market.android.com/music.

The link on the top of the page that says "Get Android App" sends you to the Google Music Beta app which offers a limited free trial, but does not allow you to purchase tunes from the Android Market. Longer than expected negotiations with the record labels is holding this feature back. The app allows you to store up to 20,000 songs for free and lets you access them from any Android device running Froyo or higher. You will also be able to create your own playlist and listen to your songs even when offline.

Right now, it is available only in the U.S. and it requires Flash to be installed. If you want to start your music collection now, some free tunes are available from the service. Add all of this functionality to a brand new Google Music Store, and it looks like iTunes will have some tough competition.

Steve Jobs vowed revenge on Eric Schmidt over Android

Steve Jobs vowed revenge on Eric Schmidt over Android
Monday will bring one (of likely many) biographies on Steve Jobs. This one by Walter Isaacson includes the story of the falling out between Steve Jobs and Eric Schmidt. The story has been leaked to the New York Times and Associated Press (likely to stir up free advertising for said book,) and it's a pretty interesting one.

Of course, Eric Schmidt was on the board at Apple from 2006 to 2009, while also acting as CEO of Google. The two companies eventually started competing with each other through iOS and Android, so Schmidt left Apple's board. When Steve Jobs saw Google release Android, he apparently felt it was a great betrayal, and told Isaacson that he felt Android was a "stolen product." Jobs was especially angered with a January 2010 Android device by HTC, which Jobs felt had many of the features of iOS including multitouch.

Apple has since sued HTC and other Android manufacturers multiple times. Jobs told Isaacson:

“ I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple’s $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong. I’m going to destroy Android, because it’s a stolen product. I’m willing to go thermonuclear war on this. ”

The New MOTOROLA RAZR:

Ice Cream Sandwich may finally bring native screenshots to Android

Ice Cream Sandwich may finally bring native screenshots to Android
The big reveal for Ice Cream Sandwich is happening tomorrow, but as always, that won't stop us from giving you some new info tonight. There is new word coming from Android Police that Ice Cream Sandwich will finally be getting native screenshots.

Screenshots have so far been relegated to certain manufacturer UIs like Samsung's TouchWiz, or to the root community through apps like Shoot Me. With Gingerbread, Google had built in the capability for developers to add the option of taking screenshots within an app, but there hasn't been options for system-wide screenshots. Now, it seems that we'll be able to do just that in ICS by simply pressing the power and volume down buttons.

Behind this process are two binaries: screenshot and screencap, which apparently existed in Honeycomb, but weren't hooked to a specific key combo. So, there we go, native screenshots will finally be in Android.

Android Ice Cream Sandwich Will Feature Built In Screen Capture

We have already heard of some of the new features that will be available to Android users in the latest version of Google’s mobile OS, Android Ice Cream Sandwich, which will be unveiled later today at the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

Now it would appear that one feature, that many Android users have been wanting for a while, will come in Android Ice Cream Sandwich, the ability to take screenshots of your device’s screen. This feature has been available to Android users via third party applications, and some manufacturers handsets also support the feature, like HTC, but it will be built into Android Ice Cream Sandwich, and you will be able to take a screenshot by pressing the power and volume buttons at the same time.

A Close look at Nokia’s Upcoming cell Phone W7

Deviantart user Larmthe4 created a model of Nokia Windows Phone device that runs Mango OS.  Nokia has only one working Windows Phone prototype – Nokia W7, which is based on the recently announced X7 (has the same chassis), but comes with Nokia concept phone with a 4.2 inch AMOLED HD multitouch display, a 1GHz CPU and 768MB of RAM.
The Mango OS smartphone packs 576MB of ROM, 16GB of internal memory and a Carl Zeiss 12 megapixel camera with dual LED flash. Nokia W7 looks extremely skinny and bundles innovative ports such as a microUSB 3.0 and mini HDMI.
This model measures 9.8mm in thickness, weighs 142 grams and adopts a curvy look, that’s the most modern industrial phone design nowadays.
Since it’s the only working prototype with which Nokia engineers are learning how to work with Windows Phone, it’s highly likely that this will be the first Nokia Windows Phone model in the market. Nokia’s Management is pushing for a late 2011 launch, but it’s very likely that the release may slip to Q1 2012.   In its current state, the Nokia W7 strongly reminds of the HTC Mozart.

Hands-on Preview: Grand Theft Auto III for iOS, Android

Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto III is celebrating its 10 year anniversary and if you remember playing it on your PS2, Xbox, or PC, it has probably blown your mind to think that same game will soon be released across a number of iOS and Android devices in a couple of weeks. During this weekend’s New York Comic Con, fans were able to get some hands-on time with the game running on iPad 2s. After some elbow throwing and using sexy cosplayers as decoys, I was finally able to get my hands on Grand Theft Auto III.

Grand Theft Auto III was a landmark in Rockstar’s historic open-world franchise as both Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Auto II were played from a top-down point of view. GTA III took a huge leap and brought the carnage and mayhem we all loved from the two previous titles and brought it into a modern day fully 3D Liberty City. Seeing as the game turned 10 years old, the game’s graphics certainly hold up on the iPad 2. Claude and other people in the game have somewhat of a blocky 3D look to them, but everything certainly looks as it should and possibly even better as Rockstar put some work into tweaking the graphics to look more crisp.

The game will, of course, sport on-screen controls. The demo had a floating virtual joystick on the left side of the screen, which is used to move Claude around, while a number of actions can be performed via their respective buttons on the bottom right side of the screen. Claude will be able to attack, sprint, jump, and carjack like he did in the original game. Once Claude gets into a vehicle, the buttons change for those specific to driving the vehicle. The virtual stick became a “Left / Right” D-pad, but producer Rich Rosado assured me controls for the game were completely customizable, allowing players to change the position and size of the on-screen buttons, as well as the ability to use the virtual joystick or D-pad controls. As for the game’s camera, the game will now have a fixed camera that will swing around Claude as he moves around the city. Shooting enemies or random passerby’s can be done by activating the game’s lock-on targeting system just like in the original GTA III.

During my time with the game, I was able to hijack a number of vehicles, run over pedestrians, and get into some serious trouble with the law. Throughout my rampage, the game performed flawlessly, barely dropping under 30 fps even with all of the action going on in the game. All of the sights and sounds that I remember from the original GTA III were all present and it felt just as good to play as it did 10 years ago. This was all due to the iPad 2′s A5 dual core processor, although producer Rich Rosado said Rockstar plans on supporting non-dual core processor devices, such as the iPhone 4 and other Android devices. The focus right now is to get GTA III out on the dual-core processor devices mentioned previously, then to trickle down support to other devices to let fans of the game play it on their devices.

Since my demo time was short, I wasn’t able to get into the game’s story at all, but I did get to experience one neat update. GTA III will sport an additional camera mode that pays homage to the previous GTA games by transforming the entire game to a top-down view. If you’re a nostalgic Grand Theft Auto fan, then you know how cool of an addition this is. Aside from that neat addition, Rockstar says the game’s content for the most part has been left unchanged. GTA III really impressed me this weekend and I can’t wait until Rockstar finishes it to spend hours with it once again 10 years after its initial release.
